Page of Pentacles

The Page of Pentacles is a mysterious entity which takes the appearance of a L’huine woman with a centipede crawling over her face, neck and back.   She was first encountered by the Camp Directors several days after arriving in The Gates and setting up their Gate Camp. She introduced herself as the "Page of Pentacles" and explained that she once had the name "šiaeýlnlýeaiš". This name is apparently gibberish, though it is, notably, a palindrome. She also stated that another title she once held was "Bishop of Cievka".   She is, by her own admission or claim, not a threat.

Physical Description

Body Features

The Page's most noticeable feature is the giant centipede which is firmly attached to the side of her face. It loops from her face back around her ear, then around her neck, and then down her spine.   Her skin is pale, she has messy black hair and green eyes that seem to just have a hint of madness about them. She also has a pair of antennae protruding from her forehead and a pair of mandables on either side of her mouth.   She wears a simple white knee-length tunic with a gold cord wrapped around her waist. In her left hand she holds a large gold coin with a pentacle carved into the exposed side. This coin is always visible to whoever she is facing as her palm is turned toward them with her hand tightly gripping the coin with the tips of her fingers.   Around her neck is a second, similarly sized, gold coin with another pentacle which is suspended using a simple thin rope.

Special abilities

Chittering Speech - When the Page of Pentacles speaks her words are always accompanied by the sound of chittering which, while definitely emanating from the page herself, seems to surround and fill the ears of anyone she is speaking to. Do her words actually come from her mouth? OR do they perhaps come from this chittering noise somehow? Are any of the words or noises truly produced by her physically or is it just a telepathic message of some kind? It is unknown how this ability truly works at this time, though perhaps it is a specialized form of another spell capable of allowing anyone to understand the speaker. This would explain someone from a lost race of people is capable of speaking in any language that could be understood by someone from the modern age.   Insect Form - The Page of Pentacles can reduce her body to a swarm of innumerable insects. This was demonstrated when Elmgrove attempted to snare her with his rope, and, instead of being captured, she instead turned her foot into a collection of tiny insects to free herself. These insects slowly rejoined with her main body as skin grotesquely reappeared to recreate the foot. It is unknown which is her true form: The insects, the L'huine woman, or perhaps even the Centipede on her face are all viable options though.   Blessing of Cievka - The Page is capable of providing a blessing from the one she worships: Cievka, Smorthonya of Coils. This blessing involves her more deliberately pointing the coin in her hand toward those that would be blessed as another pentacle appears beneath the target's feet. The target is suddenly aware of a crawling insect within their mouth which begins to make its way down their throat. If the target resists, the Page simply comforts them until this step concludes. After the insect, likely a centipede, is swallowed the target suddenly goes blind and deaf for a few seconds. As their vision and hearing quickly returns, the target then feels their mouth suddenly become incredibly dry.
  • This blessing supposedly provides increased protection against mental manipulation. It "bolsters willpower" and acts as a shield for the mind, though it doesn't make the mind impervious to such attacks.

“It’s quite simple. Have you ever heard of magic? Well, our magic comes from a divine. And we can use this divine power to bless your people, preventing them from being attacked when they are vulnerable…well, maybe not “prevent” entirely, it just helps… it is still partially up to the will of the individual. We are what you might consider…a bishop.”   The Page of Pentacles claims to have once been a bishop of Cievka, Smrtohnya of Coils. This name is familiar with those that know of the Harandil Pantheon as it is a spirit of madness.   “Perhaps not a god at all. It is more of a … force of nature. An essential part of the world, a necessity that persists behind the scenes. It is often hated, mostly by those that do not understand, but it is capable of providing great blessings to those that can hear and listen and speak to its form. We are just as much it as it is us, influencing each other, pulling in one direction or the other, against and together. Its name is unspeakable, but we call it Cievka, the Smrtohnya of Coils.”   The Page acknowledged that it is indeed madness, but that she and others are capable of using its madness as a form of protection.   “Truly, it is madness. Though, worry not, our blessing does not force any sort of madness… it is intended only to prevent madness, to save you from it. It is best at preventing madness, just as it is best at causing it. You do not need to worship, do not need to be twisting or spiraling…this blessing, these journals, they are a gift, nothing more.”
