Empire of Suon

The Empire of Su sits at the southern end of the Eastern Kingdoms and perhaps is the most poorly regarded of them. It is ruled by the The Imperial House of Su in name only, though the Emperor still retains his fair share of soft influence as Head of State.

Demographics

99.9% Su

Government

Constitutional empire ruled by The Chamber of Chieftains in the name of the Emperor.

Industry & Trade

Cosmalite is Su's most notable and lucrative export.

Guilds and Factions

Guild of Shapers The Guild of Shapers  is the primary source of Cosmalite and is the only official branch of the government that is permitted to study and use magic.   The Scions of the Seventh Sun The The Scions of the Seventh Sun is a irrelevant group of scientists and academics who invented the sun-dial in 0AD and have spent a millennium declining in influence, coin and relevance.

History

Pre-History (2000BC-1000BC) The ancestors of the Su also originated from the Red Veil Mountains like the Veilans and Yersi but decided to migrate south into the beastfolk ran flatlands and savannas, instead of north in pre-history. The reason for this decision is debated; some say they were led by the best warriors of the mountain clans; others say these ancestors were actually exiled criminals.   Regardless of the truth, these ancestors formed societies led by Warlords who waged war on the beastfolk of the south and led to their annihilation.   Antiquity (1000BC to 0AD) During this time, the Warlords of Suon crossed the Red Veil Mountains and conquered the entire region that would come to be known as the Kingdom of Yersia. They also allied with the fragmented kingdoms and clans in the modern-day Kingdom of Red Veil to help drive out and exterminate the elves.   200BC is the first recorded and official year in which a Su Emperor of Suon was crowned. It marks the movement away from nomadic warlord tribes to settlements; from purely reaving and warring to an understanding of the importance of trade and diplomacy with their new allies in the north.   The Iron Age (0AD - 842AD) The Iron Age saw the Su involved in many naval skirmishes and raids to the west with pirates and the nations of the Spine Kingdoms. This lost the Su people a lot of influence as their military might diminished, and errors in the governance of the Yersi territories led to several revolutions there.   In exchange for a ten year tribute to Suon, The Su Emperor ratified Yersi independence in 225AD. Su people spent much of this era building infrastructure and replenishing their military might, as well as staving off pirates where they could.   Middle Ages (842AD-1060AD) With the vassalization of their closest ally, the Kingdom of Ertland, at the end of the Iron Age, the Su people became afraid. The Emperors of Suon became increasingly militaristic, longing for the times gone-by of war, reaving and glory.   When the Milkwater weakened in 1010, the Su were slow to respond to colonial efforts in the Frontier. Instead they thought to bide their time as the northern kingdoms became weaker as they focused on the new world. Their plan failed however when the abundance of magical items and knowledge strengthened Red Veil and Yersia.   In 1040 the Su attempted to colonise the decimated colonies of Hula and Novi to gain a foothold in the Frontier, but their ships caught the Ripper Plague before they even landed. Other Su warships had to sink those infected with the plague as they tried to sail home.   Present Day (1060-) The Su people are still largely focused in the Empire of Suon, though some do adventure forth to the Frontier. Khurazz Su, the current emperor of Suon, is increasingly jealous and irritated with the success of his northern neighbours.

Geography

Su is a mix of rolling fertile plains to the west and savannah in the east. There are very few mountains or hills in Su - most of the land is flat and wide open, with its major settlements built along rivers or at the center of more easily defensible forests.
