Lionshead

Ruler: Lord Prardaf Faemmerr, The Lionshead Lord. Lionshead is a member of the Lords Alliance and a firm ally of Freehaven. Economy: copper, nickel, and silver Militia: 200 soldiers, 1500 irregulars Points of interest: Southkrypt, The Black Bog Bar   Lionshead was a small mining town that served as a convenient resting place for weary travelers on the High Road between Aquilowna and Freehaven. The town of 3,000 was a member in good standing with the Lords' Alliance thanks to the efforts of its leader Lord Prardaf Faemmerr until the time of its utter ruin at the hands of an Ancient Green Dragon from Kryptdardn in 438 CE that destroyed half the town and took all of its precious metals from the mines. Now those who remain continue the rebuilding process. Unlike most northern towns Lionshead lacked walls even prior to its devastation and so it has quickly remade it's wooden palisade atop an earthen bank to shield the landward side, however, the wall has no gate and the residential buildings are in squalid shape as new construction remains slow. Nevertheless, there are still over 2000 who persevere at Lionshead, wary the great beast will return again to wreak havoc and take what meager supplies they have left. The mines to the east of town are rich in copper, nickel, and silver. The mountains are honeycombed with mine shafts and tunnels, including several that open up into the town itself, and some that go very, very deep. With no proper harbor, during good weather a dozen massive ore barges are loaded in the shallows, then poled and rowed out to unload their cargo on waiting transport ships. Even in the best weather, this operation is tricky. Instead of relying on this form of trade, most of Lionshead's imports come via caravan out of Freehaven. The Lionshead military, known as the Lances of Lionshead, composed of as many as 200 soldiers. In times of need and nearly half the citizens, 800 people, can be incorporated into the militia as irregulars. Despite the high quality of law and order in the town, there have long been persistent rumors of both the Cult of the Dragon and the Zhentarim operating within the town's walls. Rumors that have gained strength with the timing of the dragon attack at exactly the moment the towns greatest haul from the mines occurred.
