The nation of Othys was formed after the Godswar, and the founders set a pattern that continues to modern times: joint rule by a male King and a female Panarch, with a clear division of responsibility and authority. Jointly rulership by the Panarch and King, who are always of the opposite sex, with The Kingship a hereditary title while the Panarch is elected by the Assembly of Lords. The Panarch wears the Crown of the Tree made of gold foil leaves and a stole embroidered with trees. The Panarch is equal to the king in authority, and is responsible for collecting taxes customs and duties, while he determines how the money is spent. The Panarch has authority over the Civil Watch and the Panarch's Legion, while he controls the rest of the army. She is in charge of all courts with the exception of the High Court of the King. The Assembly of Lords is comprised of actual lords, though the Assembly's only real power is to vote for the Panarch. Shortly after The Godswar had ended and the people settled the lands Othys fell into civil war. Recently the last Panarch, Amathera, was deposed and enslaved and even the fate of the King remains unknown as Othys has fallen into military governance. Its capital at Twin Hills is located near the Yrdahn border, five miles up the River Anduis. Othysians believe that they have some of the most ancient lineage of all nations, and refer to themselves as the "Tree of Man". has very few sea ships, so it relies mainly upon exports. One of Othys' most important products is olive oil, the other export is fringed rugs, each of which can easily bring in a full purse of silver. They wear veils that covering the face but leaving their commonly golden hair and brown eyes revealed as those with different coloration are unusual for Othysians.
