Trains

Before the collapse, trains were one of the most important modes of transportation, delivering material, products, and people all across the world and binding together nations that previously had taken weeks to reach if not months to travel between. With the collapse, trains fell along with the rest of the world, but many of the ideas developed while building and developing the trains are implemented either directly or adapted to fit on the trams running all throughout the city. The trains used to run on coal, giving fuel to the powerful engine getting the often massive trains rolling. Many feats of engineering were displayed while building the train tracks. From chains helping the trains up massive slopes in the mountains, bridges larger than any gap to the reinforced ground running through the swamplands. The railway was a source of pride for many workers and engineers who made it happen. The trams running throughout the city seem like child's play in comparison, but the passion is still there to make them the best they can be. Apart from the pretty obvious rails, the trams share a lot of similarities with their bigger cousins. The driving and brake systems are essentially scaled-down versions of the ones previously found in trains, adapted to work with electric motors instead of the giant coal-fueled engines. Some of the more hilly parts of the city use a similar system to the chains that used to drag the trains up the steepest mountains, again slightly simplified thanks to the lower demands. Many of those who previously worked with the trains now work with the trams, or have taught a new generation of drivers and mechanics to take care of the iconic machines. Because the pride of the railway won't die as long as there's a single tram running along, and as long as there's rail for it to go on people are going to make sure it does.
