The Chain District

Pieces of the city falling down into the abyss is nothing out of the ordinary, but what do you do when one of your most valuable factories is hanging off the edge? One of the few pieces actively prevented from falling, the chain district as it's now known is considered one of the safest places to be along the edge. Bolted into the surrounding ground, the chains that give the district its name are huge works of metal holding it in place against the rest of the city. The parts closer to the center are bolted in, with only a few pieces of metal and a crack in the pavement giving away the fact that you're entering the district. Closer to the edges, however, there are parts completely hanging free with the chains holding it up a couple of meters below normal ground level. The soft grinding noise of the chains as the whole district sways softly in the wind makes a lot of people not used to it uneasy, but to those working and living there every day, the noise is just like any other. Supporting beams are run over the whole district, mostly made from the now disused tram tracks, to keep it from buckling under its own weight, and the ground is at a noticeably larger decline than the rest of the city. due to the difficulty for trams to access the area even on the most level anchor points, it's one of the few places in the whole city without the constant sounds of the trams running past. Instead, it is one of the few districts still using cargo bots transporting materials and products in between the factories. The roofs of the district are also one of the largest producers of food, making people worry about what will happen to the cities supplies once the chains break or the surrounding edges give up.
