The bugbiter

The bugbiter is a creature living on the underside of the falling city. It's fairly small, only being around a decimeter big fully grown on average, with the biggest ones getting up to two decimeters, but don't let that fool you. Its jaw is full of tiny but razor-sharp teeth, able to completely destroy the skin of a hand or foot unfortunate enough to look, or rather move like its next meal. Having previously been a cave dweller like many of the flora and fauna found on the underside, the bugbiter is blind. It hunts for insects and bugs by snuggling up next to the stem of a plant and using its extremely sensitive skin feels the movement of the plant shifting in the wind. It can then detect when an insect or bug has landed on the plant by the small vibrations sent down the stem. It then blindly lunges at the unsuspecting bug, grinding it with its teeth. With no natural predators to worry about, the bugbiter doesn't have any way of telling a small bug or insect that's a promising meal from a larger creature like a human sticking their fingers where they don't belong. Its sensitive skin makes it easy to get off once it has bitten you however, as simply flicking it with enough force makes it release its grip from pain. The teeth aren't dangerous enough to risk losing your hand if you do get bitten, but the number and sharpness of them rips your skin open in a fairly large area making it easy for infections making the recovery tricky. It happens that bugbiters make their way to the surface and bite someone, but its fairly uncommon for them to do so. With enough care of the wound afterwards any victims of the bugbiter go on without anything to show for it, except maybe some light scarring if you're unlucky.
