Welcome to the Fallen Reach Campaign Setting, a world of grim chances and dark fantasy, designed for your Dungeons and Dragons game. Here, you will find a world upon the brink of chaos, nations preparing for war, and dark forces brewing on the horizon. Though commoners cower in their darkened homes, only those of unwavering courage, great power, and the force of fates can stand up to them, enough to keep them from plunging into the will of evil.
Originally as the mad scribblings of a frantic basement dweller has become the outpouring of self. Fresh and new, while familiar to the realm of fantasy, I envisioned a different kind of campaign setting, one that would energize the weary DM and bring about the same feeling we all had when we first rolled our dice and named our characters. The resource you find here is able to be used as a large collective or as individual elements to pull into your games.
The Tone of Fallen Reach
The features that most set this setting apart is its dark ambience and grim attitude. Combining the familiar medieval fantasy with the darkened nature of humankind. With tensions of political factions, overwhelming odds, and true heroism, the campaign's story elements were designed with having characters within to make a choice: whether they have what it takes to be a hero or to surrender themselves to the surrounding shadows. This world has had thousands make this same decision, shaping the world and forming a landscape from its consequence, which can fall or rise in an instant.
The world of Fallen Reach has a rich history built from the heroes and villains of old, ever waning magic, the tensions from the recent war. In the wake of this Great Divide, right and wrong are held in the hands of its people and its shades of gray infinite and unique. Action, adventure, and intrigue await the bold, for those that do will influence the world and its people.
As natural magic dwindles into memory, the spiritual magic and soul are the fabric of this setting. It is the definition and explanation of all things. It is the power that all great heroes and villains wield. Great power comes from understanding one's soul, whether this be from balance or from submerging into the extremes. The cities above and below the region of Ikhael have been blessed and cursed with its innovation. Once united, their innovations and progress has divided themselves to fresh wounds. Opportunists squabble to places of power as its people are left to what dangers come from the aftermath.
Though there is no set equation to a hero, their one commonality is their strength of will. Few and far between, these heroes battle an overwhelming force of villains, ominous mysteries to the past and future, and underwhelming support in a world on the path to chaos and fear.
