The caster changes the composition of the material a target is composed of. The cost of changing the material is the difference between it's value/10 and the value/10 of the new material. The cost is multiplied by the heft of the target. Transmute can be cast on living targets, but the change only lasts as long as the spell's duration. Transmute is best used to weaken or harden certain elements of an object, such as the lock on a door or the shoring holding up the unstable ceiling of a mine. It can also be used to temporarily enhance weapons and armor. Some mages are known to transmute themselves or others.
Lesser Transmute
Costs half as much as Transmute. Can only replace a material with one of a lesser value. The material will not have any special traits.
Greater Transmute
Costs twice as much as Transmute. The special traits, hardness and toughness of one material and another material can be mixed and matched. Use the material of greater value to determine the cost.
