House Gartyr-Wesmund
Descended from the thanes of Wesmund, this noble household was created in 764 after the Prince of Trondalen gifted the lands and titles of the extinct house of Gartyr to the thane of Wesmund. This lord had been a minor, but loyal, officer during the rebellion of the Western nobles of Trondalen. But, more importantly, the prince knew the Wesmunds were weak and cowardly, and would never dare to rebel against House Trondalen. The lion of Gartyr lost its old colours of gold and blue, and was replaced by a lion in Trondalen colours, red on bars of gold and black. Their house and the massive fortress they inhabited served as nothing but a warning to other nobles who dared to think of opposing Trondalean power. However, as the dominance of the prince came to an end, so did theirs. Lord Dunstan, the last Merkis of Gartyr-Wesmund, was killed along with his family in a sea of fire when he dared to kill Ranveig Ravenheim, Gundar Dragnaland's betrothed, before Gundar's eyes. With that, the name of Gartyr is no longer borne by any family.
