Inquisitori

Inquisitori. . . the very name strikes fear into the hearts of mages across the wilds. They are fearless, heartless, and relentless hunters of magic users, filled with an unnatural blood-lust. The Inquisitori is a unique military organization belonging to the Clockwork Empire. They are an order dedicated to stamping out magic users within the Empire's boundaries. From the orphanages in the Empire the most promising students are chosen to be Inquisitors. The unwanted, the unneeded. Throughout their childhood, the young conscripts are put through intense training and through alchemic rituals to boost their strength and speed. Few survive this process, but those who do gain unparalleled combat prowess. Thanks to the rituals, Inquisitors also have unnatural resistance to spells and other arcane effects. Able to shrug off bolts of lightning and scorching flames as if they were nothing. Furthermore, they can smell source and use that ability to track down magic users as a hound would follow a scent. However the rituals are not without their drawbacks. Inquisitors have shortened lifespans and are prone to fly into bloodrages.

If their resistance to magic wasn't enough, the Inquisitori use what are known as 'Cage Suits.' Heavy plated armor sets designed to keep electricity away from the body and provide insulation from flames. Additionally to this, they have equipment that can absorb magical energy and turn it back on its users, or even cancel out a spell altogether.

Weaponry

Mages are the most dangerous at a range, but can be difficult to approach. The Inquisitori knows this and offers its troops both ranged and melee options. At range they use steam powered heavy crossbows. Perfect for piercing windwalls and magearmor. At close range they traditionally use glaves. The improved reach making it difficult for mages to escape from their grasp.
