Tieflings
These people are not in of themselves considered a “race”, but rather a selection of individuals that bear the Mark of The Exiled. When an exchange is made with one of The Exiled Principalities more than just power is given. The flesh of those who deal with the Exiled bears the taint of The Fallow Space, changing in color and in some areas shape. Often horns and spines grow from the flesh, claws and tails, even wings sometimes form and the eyes glow with the tainted power they now possess. People of many races have become Tieflings in exchange for the dark gifts the transformation brings, as such reports of what exactly a Tiefling looks life vary from race to race as the abnormalities and the physical traits generally associated with them are greatly varied. The Mark of the Exiled often does not end with the individual who bartered for it, for it is not uncommon for their offspring to bear the same physical traits, albeit without the power that would come with it. This passing of the Mark does not always each present in every generation and as such it is heard of that a unsuspecting mother may give birth to something she may consider to be a monster. In general Tieflings are treated with fear, hate and great deal of, perhaps founded, superstition. Most Tieflings attempt to hide what they are through magic but some have found that among the Free Spheres they do not need to hide, or at least not nearly as often.
Naming Traditions
Family names
Tiefling names fall into three broad categories. Tieflings born into another culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the Infernal language, passed down through generations, that reflect their fiendish heritage. And some younger tieflings, striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a noble quest. For others, it’s a grim destiny.
“Virtue” Names: Art, Carrion, Chant, Creed, Despair, Excellence, Fear, Glory, Hope, Ideal, Music, Nowhere, Open, Poetry, Quest, Random, Reverence, Sorrow, Temerity, Torment, Weary
