Order of the Flaming Torch

Before the War of the Broken adventures were not thought of highly. They stirred up trouble, awoke dark powers, obtain powerful magic items, provoked raiding monsters, etc. As such, they were heavily regulated.   After the war, when the Crown had passed to Queen Rosia, these regulations were reinstated. This Queen however, had a different view of adventures, being raised and educated by a group of them. She knew what an asset certain adventuring parties could be at rooting out trouble and providing information.   Although the Queen had a favorable opinion of adventures, she held the Crown by will of the people and not by divine authority. Not wanting to provoke condemnation from her subjects, she created, in secret, the Order of the Flaming Torch. This would be a group of adventurers who would take on special assignments, on behalf of the Crown, to protect the Kingdom from harm and root out any threats to its people.   While ultimately the head of the order is Her Majesty the Queen, the day to day operations are overseen by the Queens Father Lord Hiraeth. There is no other hierarchy in the order and all members are considered equal. However, this is rarely an issue, since members are not made aware of one another, and rarely if ever meet. In fact, the only identifiable mark of the order is a simple copper coin bearing the emblem of a lit torch. If members need/wish to divulge their identity, this coin can be used for that purpose. This is usually done by passing the coin during a greeting handshake and then passed back in a similar fashion as the individual’s part.   To maintain appearances all members of the order must be registered with the Adventures Guild and abide by their rules and regulations.  Members are still free to join other guilds orders, or work with other guilds an orders, as long as the safety and security of the Kingdom are given the highest priority.

Structure

Queen Rosia is the head of the Order while Lord Hiraeth AKA "The Beacon" Oversees it's operations.

History

The order is named from an endearment Lord Hiraeth acquired during his adventuring days. Hireath, as a human, needed a light in dark places. Therefore, he was usually the member of the party who carried a torch when they ventured into dark dungeons. During one such time, a member of his group became separated from the others and found his way back to the party by following the light of Hiraeth's torch. He said Hiraeth was a "beacon in the dark", and his friends called him that thereafter.
