The Endless North

Blocked off from almost the entirety Arrboth by deserts and mountains with the singular exceptions of The Ashlands and Godscar Canyon, the northern taigas and tundras have been shrouded in mystery and scarcely even known of by most mortal races for centuries. Some say these are the ancestral lands of the Elves, a primordial land of nature and beasts, though this theory doesn't fully match their spread across The Eye. In recent times, however, awareness of it has spread, and some have taken its reputation as a challenge, especially some groups hailing from Nalanosa who are used to, in their perception, far worse conditions.

Geography

Mapping out the north is extremely difficult even with flight due to the tall trees and harsh, cold high-altitude winds and snows. The southern border is fairly open to The Ashlands as grasslands steadily give way to the snowy taigas, but further east is a series of deserts up until the Beios Mountains. Rising from the eastern shore towards the west and sporting the Mesa of Storms on their eastern side, the only path from the steppe to the north is through Godscar Canyon, which very literally cuts from south to north. A very vertical, dry area seemingly formed without any historical erosion, this passage is prone to rockslides. Some claim crossing the wide deserts or throwing oneself to the whims of the sea to reach the northern shores would be safer alternatives, but this is typically a hyperbolic statement rather than a factual one.   One known feature of the region that settlers have quickly seized upon is Diamondstar Lake, a seasonally frozen formation that spans from near the western shore and branches out deeper inland. Said to be so clear that it shows a mirror's reflection even when frozen, it is a useful source of water, but most of its rivers veer north, making it less useful for travel. Apart from this landmark and its rivers, however, there is little to keep track of one's place in the woods, as the region's name implies. Local fires can commonly leave regions looking entirely different in surprisingly short spans of time, leaving the waterways as a rare, relative constant.

Fauna & Flora

Many fish such as pikes and trout favor the northern region, as do bears and birds that prefer to hunt them. Wolverines and lynxes are fairly rare in The Eye in general outside of the area, though some more common specimens such as wolves and foxes are also present. Its ties to the magic of nature, as with The Rusgan, can also frequently result in dire or giant variants of local wildlife, though even these are not the greatest endemic threats. It is whispered to be the homeland of the Winter Court, the most malicious of the Fey, and there are more verifiable reports of men succumbing to lycanthropic transformations that make them take the forms of beasts or something in between and the bloodlust that comes with them.

Natural Resources

Nowhere in Arrboth can compete with the ample lumber and hunting grounds of the north, though it is largely inaccessible from the rest of the continent. Furs, meat, and other animal products are common exports of the region as a result. Some of the spread-out mineral reserves of Arrboth are found in cold bogs in the area, but most who settle here have little interest in them compared to lumber and thrill of the hunt.
