Arrboth

A large, diverse continent in the northern hemisphere of The Eye, Arrboth is named after Emperor Arrboth, the warlord who first unified it under the empire of the same name. Many diverse cultural influences from those conquered still remain, of course, and it is not the only force of note on the continent. It is also home to Sen'ssinai, the most well-known Elvish civilization in existence.   A land of dry steppes and deserts as much as humid swamps and cold northlands, Arrboth spent much of its history isolated from the lands of Ristshan and Nalanosa by its difficult shorelines and internal strife. It still bears scars from both mortal war and supernatural events, but what one may call a scar can be a beauty to others.

Geography

Arrboth sports a wide and varied landscape, covering a significant latitudinal area in the northern hemisphere of The Eye. The western region, known predominantly as The Ashlands, is a heavily volcanic region, with black beaches of basalt and ash, though many areas of it are far more hospitable than its name suggests. Where The Ashlands taper off to the east is The Varulosph, a land considered sacred for its fertility compared to the steppes, including coastal forests, rich oases, and the seat of the Golden Empire. The Rusgan, or Rusgan Coast, forms the rest of the southern border, a flat, partially submerged region of saltwater bogs and mangrove swamps.   The largest two regions, however, are The Midland Steppe and The Endless North. The former is the area of dry steppes and deserts that comprises the vast majority of mainland Arrboth. This includes the Sen'ssin Desert, home to the civilization of Sen'ssinai. The latter is named largely because it is a scarcely charted cold taiga, cut off from the steppes by the volcanoes and deserts to the west and the Beios Mountains to the east.

Fauna & Flora

The varied climate of Arrboth results in similarly varied wildlife. Horses and camels have artificially become extremely common to the continent as a whole thanks to the Golden Empire, but they are far from the only creatures that can live there. Predatory cats, hyenas, and bands of gnolls are common threats on the steppe and in deserts, along with various lizards and snakes, which do not shy away from the forests or swamps either. Larger endemic species include rhinoceri and sandworms, though thankfully the latter stick to deeper regions of deserts. In other climes, vastly different animals are present, as explained in their own regions.

Natural Resources

Deforestation is a common issue in Arrboth due to the high demands and relative scarcity, with suitable, accessible wood mainly existing only in The Varulosph. With so much sand and ash, however, glass is far more abundant, as is sandstone for building. Tin and copper are both present in the region, and thus bronze has found common use, with iron being comparatively less prevalent than in Ristshan. However, one metal that Arrboth has in abundance holds great importance to the empire of similar name: gold. Gold can be found in various forms across the continent, and a great deal of it concentrates itself into the Golden Empire.   For a significant time, the steppes had little interest in true domestication and few species suitable for it, with horses and camels, again, forming the main exception. Both species have been both transportation and beasts of burden for much of the continent's history. However, chickens and tapir have become a common staple since the formation of the empire, along with some livestock indigenous to Chal. Fishing is relatively common in the south but unavailable through most of the region. The Namazu, massive catfish with ties to earth, are a fairly recent domesticated creation that takes the place of cattle for much of the region as well.
