The Fradesian Civil War

A Duchy - Ripped Apart

The Civil War was started after the Frost destroyed the city of Entoby in Oplar. The Northern territories, led by Mayor Reynard, (Ustad, Uthgad and Obresh) declared that the Duke - Duke Cornelius II is the one to blame for The Engulfment. They claimed that he used illegal magics to progress the expansion of the Frozen Wastes. The Northern territories then signed the Northern Pact, and declared the Duke unfit to rule. Only a day after the pact was signed and war declared, the combined armies of Ustad, Uthgad and Obresh marched their armies towards the capital of Fradris City.   After hearing about the declaration of war, the Duke signed a treaty with Dabren, Oplor and Faredrin, in the Protection Alliance pact. They immobilised their armies and navy and moved them towards the Gulf of Dabresh, where the first battle would begin.   Despite there only being four major battles, there were hundreds of skirmishes. Most of the war was spent skirmishing, marching, building and immobilising.

Battle for the Dabresh Gulf

The first battle of the Civil War would be naval battle. Due to proximity, Obresh had their navy ready and prepared, it took two days for the navies of the Protection Alliance to arrive. On the coast, both armies were on each side of the gulf. The Northern Pact readied their archers, to fire upon the ships of the Alliance. The Alliance did the same. Early in the morning, there would be first contact. The ships of the Alliance would be boarded almost immediately and the crews would be killed. A total of 20 Alliance and 12 Pact ships would be destroyed. Over 1,000 lives would be claimed. The Northern Alliance would claim victory. After the battle on the water had finished, the armies of the Pact would cross borders into Dabren, and the first land battle would begin.

Battle for Dabren

The second battle of the Civil War. Both armies would meet in the countryside on the road toward Darwell, Dabrens' capital. There, a land battle would take place. The battle would start with both armies getting into formation. The Pact would ready their archers, and the Alliance would ready their cavalry. After an hour, the Alliance would begin their cavalry charge towards the Pact swords men. Upon first contact, the horses would smash through the first lines, killing hundred and severely weakening the Pacts army. The Pact would retaliate with an arrow volley down upon the advancing soldiers of the Alliance. They too, would claim hundreds of lives, but despite losing many soldiers, the Alliances' army kept good morale and they didn't falter. Instead the Pact ended up retreating after a gruelling 6 hour long fight in the countryside. The Pact lost many soldiers, many to desertion and surrender. The Protection Alliance would claim their first victory.   After the battle ended, the Pact would retreat their land forces out of Dabren and back into Uthgad. While this was happening, the army of Ustad would be sailed along the Shaking Sea and would land on the southern east edge of Fradris. The Alliance would quickly scramble to get their in time before the Pact reaches the capital.

Battle for the Jagged Hills

The armies of the Alliance would cross into Fradris near the border with Oplar. After a long seven day march, the Alliance made contact with the Pact. Underneath the towering Jagged Hills mountain range, the two armies would fight, for the longest battle in the war.   The battle would last for five days, as both armies would momentarily retreat and camp out. During these moments of rest, both armies would fight skirmishes with each other, aiming to slowly dwindle the other armies forces.   After five days, both armies would meet one last time. The battle started with an arrow volley from each side, as soldiers from the Alliance advanced. This time, the Pact had cavalry, and they charged the swordsmen. Seeing the danger, the commander of the Alliance, General Wymarc, ordered the pike men to move to the front of the army. With their spears, they managed to kill more horses than the Pact could've soldiers. The Pact would retreat after fighting for three more hours due to lack of soldiers. The Protection Alliance would claim another victory.   More Pact forces would then land their soldiers in the North of Fradris, and would begin their march towards Fradris City.

Battle for Fradris City

The final battle of the war, though not the last of the struggles that the Duke would face to do with the Northern territories.   The siege would began at midnight. The Pact forces would raise their siege towers against the city walls. Whilst this was happening, the soldiers stationed on the city walls were raining arrows down upon the Pact forces as they attempted to break down the city gates. Behind the gates was an incredibly large force, commanded by General Wymarc, a famous general during the war. The soldiers each had ten years training and further five years as soldiers. The Pact managed to gain access to the city walls, where they were cut down. The battle for the walls raged on as the city gates finally broke through. As it did, hundreds of Pact soldiers stormed through, cutting down soldiers where they stood, the battle in the city raged on for hours, before the Pact forces were finally repelled as the Sun started to rise. Fradris was free.   Upon the battle ending, and the forces withdrawing, the Northern Pact disbanded, and peace was formally made with the Duchy. Whilst the Civil War was over, the amount of political struggles that the Duke and the Duchy faced was immense, but morale was high as the Duchy of Fradris was secured.
