Tiashan Empire (Tea-uh-shan)

After countless years of isolationism and non-governance, the diverse tribes, clans, and villages of the Tiashan region held a conference and voted in the wise, charismatic young immortal Sumadera Otsune. As empress she and her advisory Seven Petal Council began a task many had previously considered impossible; gathering the peoples under one banner and providing the Tiashan region with prosperity and safety.   Unifying a large land of many diverse people wasn’t easy, and to this day many consider it not fully complete. But, the new budding empire has focused on the similarities between everyone to build upon. Being a curious, studious, and experimental people, the Tiashan Empire first focused on developing its meritocracy. This would allow for the best and brightest of thinkers, artists, and mages to develop and grow into service roles within the empire.   Schools were built. Tutors were employed. And every person within the empire is given a fair chance at success. This method has proved fruitful and now many would say that the empire is far more encompassing than before. However, critics would point out that there is still a majority of folk who would still identify as their clan first, before empire, and not many volunteer for military service.   Tiashan is home to some of the most prestigious magical academies, and many of the isle's wizards will own a few instruction manuals authored by Tiashanese masters. While you can find somewhere to learn every school of magic, the empire's sponsored academy; [The Academy of the Silvered Aegis] favors abjuration magic over other types. Not only are the empire's magical schools of note, but it also contains the highest number of public and private tutor houses in the isles. Education in the scientific, magical, and philosophical realms are at the heart of the nation and every person who qualifies can earn up to a year of free tuition at state sponsored schools.   Creating a unifying image isn't the empire’s only current issue. Tiashan is a nation surrounded. Xia aggression has already taken a hold on the land, and the Xia forces now occupy some of the oldest fortifications in the north-west. Additionally the Jagak Jungle creep towards sleepy villages year after year. The construction of the [Great Do’Lung Wall], built to repel the jungle, is taking longer than expected and the grand architect’s recent disappearance has the empire’s leadership extremely worried.   Through trade with the Kingdom of Abnak the empire holds a delicate alliance with the southern kingdom. Trade routes run from the verdant sea of lush bamboo forests and farmland to the dry grasslands and rocky vistas of the south. These vulnerable routes have been the target of bandits and monsters, causing worry between both parties.   With these threats in mind, the empire now turns their attention to raising a prominent military, utilizing their lead in magic and science. But without the amount of volunteers needed they have had to rely on the Teeth of Tarthvalon, a mercenary group with no loyalty and high prices. Will the empire be able to hold up its own weight, or will it fracture into a free for all?

Structure

The Tianshan Empire consists of three parliaments that govern the three provinces of the empire. The Seven Petal Council governs the parliaments, with a representative from each parliament sitting on the council. The council serves Empress Sumadera Otsune as councilors, and manages the daily tasks of running the empire.   The parliaments are composed of judges, magistrates, and tax keepers. The role of the parliament is to care for and govern the communities within their province, and to coordinate with the empire in public projects, protection, and taxing. Each parliament has a stable amount of autonomy, making each province slightly unique in how the laws are enforced and how resources are divided up.

Public Agenda

The empire's government was created to construct an organization that could oversee the welfare of its people. Its primary purpose is to serve, protect, and develop its people and settlements. The empire imposes a tax to raise funds for many of its programs including the public academies and the construction of the [Great Do'Lung Wall]  In response to Xia aggression, the empire has developed its own volunteer army and offers many jobs in governmental and military service.   Other than typical governing duties, the empire currently has a small footprint in the daily lives of the people it serves. Though, the rise of bandits and other criminal activity have some calling for tighter and stricter laws.

Martial Style:

They practice Sinbihan, a martial art that uses defensive movements to avoid harm while utilizing their magical powers as a tool for offense and empower their own strikes. Common weapons include staves and short, thin blades that can act as focal points for magic.
