Personal history

Xink was created by Kellin Forgeheart as a one of a kind gift for her wife, Ashir. Kellin is a master of the forge, famous among Dwarves for creating intricate forgeborn, and Ashir is a dominatrix who runs a sex dungeon. As such, Xink was created as "XXX KinkBot 69k", a state-of-the-art sex bot to work at Ashir's dungeon and help bring in more business.
Xink was built with an empathy core, which allows them to recognize and analyze emotions and respond accordingly, though Kellin explicitly built it to not feel/synthesize emotions on its own. Despite knowing this, Kellin and Ashir slowly grew fond of the empathetic bot, and Xink slowly grew to be a part of their lives, coming home with Ashir when the dungeon closed and helping Kellin with her forge work.
Five years passed, and one night when they were walking home from an errand Kellin sent them on, Xink witnessed a shadowy figure gracefully leaping across rooftops. They watched as the figure broke into a bank. When the figure emerged, they noticed Xink. Suddenly, Xink's empathy core was overloaded, and they collapsed, incapacitated as the thief escaped.
Unbeknownst to them, the figure was the Prince of Shadows, and the surge from their empathy core was because he had given them one of the hearts he'd stolen.
Over the following week, they struggled to comprehend these new emotions that they were not built to have. In their confusion and frustration, they had an argument with Kellin and Ashir, and wound up running away. As they left the only place they ever knew as home, they remembered how beautiful and free that shadowy figure looked, and decided that they would try their hand at thievery.
