Collarian

Species Overview

A race of reptile-like aliens from the Collaria Star Archipelago.
They are a species of merchants and businessmen. There’s also a small group running a Bounty Hunting organization that has more to it than it seems…

Basic Information

Anatomy

Comparison to Terrestrial Lizards

Collarians look much like humanoid lizards. They have scales, hairless bodies, tails and a forked, purple tongue. Their eyes are also very similar to lizards except they possess eyelids like Humans or Devils and lack nictitating membranes like lizards on Earth do.

Other Facial Features

They have short, protruding snouts with small olfactory slits. They do not have external ears.

Limbs

The legs make a curving backwards ‘s’-like shape. The fingers and toes end in short claws.

Sexual Dimorphism Level

Males and females look very much the same, except for the females milk producing glands, similar to Humans and Devils but smaller, and the genital region.

Genetics and Reproduction

Peculiarly, the ‘males’ of the species possess both reproductive parts, allowing male-male couplings to produce young as well as female-male. However, only the females can produce milk, making the females a necessary part of child rearing.

Growth Rate & Stages

One big different to lizards is that Collarians give birth to live young just like mammals on Earth do instead of laying eggs.
The infant young are partially aquatic and therefore must be around a fairly large body of water for the first couple of decades. By the age of around 30 Earth years they will leave the water permanently for land.

Lifespan

Though Collarians do not livequite nearly as long as Devils, they still live significantly longer than Humans, with the elderly being approximately equivalent to 500,000 Earth years.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Due to the importance of the females in caring for young, they are seen as very important members of society and making Collarians a semi-matriarchal society. Besides child-rearing, another important duty of the females is create and uphold the laws. They also run much of the business side of society, running restaurants, bars, and other establishments while males are usually the artisans, though opposite interests are far from uncommon and even encouraged.

Civilization and Culture

Common Dress Code

Collarian dress is very simple, usually consisting of aprons, short pants and tunics.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Due to their status as the largest spacefaring race of merchants, traders, and entrepreneurs, good relations with other species is extremely important.
