Patrick grew up with his clan, travelling all over the continent. One day a mercenary army camped near our camp and convinced me to join them so I could "have new experiences, forge new bonds, make new friends, do some good and leave my mark on the world and do all of this while being payed, and look cool doing it". This is how his journey started.
He stayed with this mercenary band for over a year. Patrick made some great friends, got promoted and for a while was responsible for relaying the orders, bring up morale, give the marching pace,... using his horn.
However, after the death of the commander, Vic Dariof , the other commanders, Rudrik shattershield and Karo Dalondor started accepting any job as long as they would be paid, without regarding any moral issues. So they would sometimes do morally ambiguous or bad things. This became worse and worse and came to a head when the Iron legion had to do something really evil that crossed the line. That night Patrick decided to put the tents of the commanders on fire, quickly said goodbye to his friends in the camp and fled as fast as he could, before the fire was noticed.
The fire could have killed all/some of the leaders or it could have been noticed and dealt with before there were even any injuries. He never found out since I had to flee immediately after he lit the fires and never looked back. He traveled for a long time just so I could put a lot of distance between me and this company. Then He traveled some more, looking for a new adventure, new opportunities and a worthy gift for the clan.
Patrick's warrior ways never left him though, as he assisted with the recovery of The Spellforge , beating Nezznar to death with his club, lightbringer. However, soon after, his past with the Iron legion came back to haunt him: Phandalin was sacked and he and his allies were on the run, desperately attempting to protect the dragon's egg.
