Hajlfaersend

Hajlfaersend was a Sverden settlement in a central part of Sverdenland.

Demographics

Throughout its entire history, Hajlfaersend was overwhelmingly occupied by Sverden individuals. However, it was at various points home to some Trebai and Alois humans, as well as a number of Makovai dwarves. These outsiders often came to the village to trade with the native residents there, or used the settlement as a stopping place before venturing further to or from the Makovai Mountains.

Government

Upon its founding in the Third Era, the town and the surrounding lands were ruled by its own regional governor, who usually worked with the royal family of Halvaderom. As time went on and Hajlfaersend turned from an important trading town to a small rural village, the area saw no need for a governor and was put under the authority of the royal family of Ingjaldatom.

Industry & Trade

Early in its existence, Hajlfaersend was a booming trading town, a place for commerce among those traveling to and from Halvaderom. As Sverden trade networks began to fall apart in the Fourth Era, however, the settlement and its surrounding lands turned their focus to agriculture. In the late Fourth Era, Hajlfaersend was known more for its high breakroot yields, its heritage as a trading center forgotten by most.

History

Hajlfaersend was founded in the year 6451, during the Third Era. The founders of the town, envoys from the newly-established city of Halvadere, were charged with the building of settlements to fill the space between their city and Ingjaldatom, a Sverden mountain city not accessible by the Sommerval River. These new settlements, they theorized, would boost trade between the two powers and ease the journey between the cities.   The settlement prospered, quickly growing into a fairly large town. Thriving off the commerce that passe through the area, Hajlfaersend was soon able to form its own municipal government, and began to foster a number of surrounding agricultural hamlets. Apart from its high density of trade, the area was known for the University of the Arcane at Hajlfaersend, a modest magical school. Students seeking to study magic at a more affordable cost than was offered by schools in Halvaderom often came to Hajlfaersend to pursue their studies there.   As with nearly all Sverden settlements in the region, Hajlfaersend was hit hard by the economic decline following the end of Kantaran occupation in Atla Vera and the creation of the Vrelheim Dam. As Halvaderom fell into ruin and most Sverden moved into the Makovai Mountains to find work, Hajlfaersend became a relic of what it once was. By 7400, all of the town's surrounding hamlets were completely abandoned. In 7432, the town's university shut its doors for good. During this time, the architecture of the town fell into ruin, and remaining residents gradually moved to the open plains outside the community to try and revitalize Hajlfaersend as a farming settlement.

Architecture

Hajlfaersend was home to a number of intricate architectural works, as was common among the Sverden. Many of these were centered around the town's university and trading market.   As time went on and the region declined, most of this architecture fell into ruin and was never rebuilt.
