Squad
A squad is the basic formation type of most of actual and past military forces, as those in The Alliance, The Federation of Independent Systems and The Core.
Composition
Manpower
It consists of 6 soldiers:
One captain
One medic
One engineer
One support soldier
One heavy soldier
One tactical expert
Each role has different armor nd different range of weapons as, for example, the heavy soldier needs more armor and bullets than a medic. Also, away from the battlefield, there is an inexact number of people helping with logistics and support, as Support Ships and Medic Frigates.
Equipment
Each role has specific weapons, armor, usables, grenades, etc.
Captain: Assault or combat rifle. Simple armor.
Medic: Assault or combat rifle. Heavy armor. Extras: Medic Kit, Bandages, Adrenaline injections, Painkillers, Anesthesia...
Engineer: Assault or combat rifle. Simple armor. Extras: Barbed wire,
Support soldier: Heavy machine gun or assault rifle. Simple armor. Extras: Ammo box, bipod...
Heavy: Machine gun or assault rifle. Heavy armor. Extras: 5 Grenades, One Rocket launcher,
Tactical: Combat rifle. Simple armor.
The most common weapon used by squad members is Assault Rifles, as they can shoot from longer distances than Combat Rifles with a decent and comparable precision. Some examples are: The Deltic series (from DR to D6) and the Apr 6 and Apr 7.
Vehicles
Each mission is different, as its needs for different vehicles. In some recon missions, maybe soldiers do not have even one vehicle, but in big battles, maybe each soldier has its own unipersonal transport.
Logistics
Logistical Support
The captain is responsible for his 5 man, as he is the head of the group. In combat, groups of squads will be under the command of a commander, who will give orders from the generals to the captains.
Military vehicles, as the TAV-5 (Terrestrial Assault Vehicle) are designed to include enough seats for travelling an exact number of squads, in this case, a TAV-5 has 26 seats; 18 for 3 squads, 2 pilots, 4 gunners, and two extra seats for commanders, generals or tactic support teams.
History
This formation type was first designed by Federik Stif. It was introduced in the year 312 as a preventive to the inevitable First War. From then, The Alliance was the first that used it, but it is still used until the Colonies Revolution.
