Marshcross

A small village on the outside of the Mourning Woods, focused on extracting lumber to sell at Fyr-Elfhafen. Normally peaceful, has recently been the target of some sort of plague or curse.

Demographics

The population is comprised of a balanced mix of humans, elfs, half-elfs, halfflings.

Government

As a small village, Marshcross is run by a very simple hierarchy. The major decisions are taken through periodic councils involving the most influencial members of the village, with the village elder making the final decision.

Industry & Trade

Being located right at the border of the The Mourning Woods, this village is isolated from the main roads along the The Drakkenhed. This leads to a lack of merchants passing by the village and a consequent lack of variety in items exchanged into or from the city.
Although there is a communal industry around wooden furniture and tools, with some blacksmithing families, most of the trade in the village happens through big carts of wood carried to Fyr-Elfhafen, where it is exchanged for necessities of the villagers.
The most common imports are food and finer crafts.

Infrastructure

With a very small population, Marshcross doesnt have many workshops like one can find in the bigger cities. Since the village lives off the trade of wood, most craftsman workshop are dedicated to the handling of wood or tools to handle wood. In Marshcross there are a couple of families which pass down knowledge on blacksmithing, being the ones responsible for the creation and maintenance of the metal tools used by the rest of the village.
The village also has a small temple where the villagers worship their respective gods, as the temple itself is not dedicated to any deity in particular.

Geography

Marshcross is located close to the border of the Mourning Woods, next to a small stream which runs down from the forest until it reaches The Drakkenhed.

Since the village lives off the wood from the forest, its villagers are constantly in danger of encountering monsters lurking in wait for those who dare come too close to their hunting grounds. Therefore, Marshcross partakes in the tradition of replanting trees alongside the border of the forest, so that its villagers can work while never going too deep into forest territory.

The Path into the Forest

Although it may seem like just another village living off the wood of the great dark forest, Marshcross has one landmark that is not easily forgotten by those who witness it.

Called by several names, as its original one has long since been forgotten, the great arc known as The Northern Green Gate is a gigantic wooden structure located between Marshcross and the depths of the Mourning Woods which opens a paved road between the trees. It is rumored to have been built by the Eladrin at their arrival to the north of this forest and served as the gateway into what was one of their many ancient realms.

Nowadays, it serves a similar purpose, guiding the villagers of Marshcross in the start of their annual journey into the depths of the forest, all the way to The Circle of the Moon, in what is known as begging for The Blessing of the Lady of the Forest.
