Personal history
James was draft into the Union Army during the Civil War at age sixteen. During the battle of Vicksburg, he was whisked away by Nyktha to the Cage. There, he was abandoned and forced into a contract with Virasu to stay alive. Virasu put him through experimental mutagens, training and conditioning that turned him into the first man capable of standing against monsters. However, he was quickly forgotten after he was injured by a wyvern. A century later, a boy showed up on his doorstep asking to learn swordsmanship. This boy was George Wickett, the man who would go on to kill gods. James trained him as they traveled to Nethylor. However, one night, when a light signaling a child of earth landed near their camp, George went after it. James followed and arrived just in time to save George from a Wendigo. During the fight, he was wounded, but killed the beast. The child of earth George had saved was named Phillip Henderson. A week later, James died from being frozen from the inside out thanks to the Wendigo.
