Sniffer Hounds and Hunter Wolves: Chimeric Innovations.

Chimaera are manufactured lifeforms that are specifically engineered to fill a role. Chimaera are artificial bio-organic organisms created by vivamancers in factories called Flesh Forges. The two models introduced in this document are part of the war dog generation of Chimaera, designed to be able to track, hunt, and engage brightbound being able to resist the weaves(spells) of a magic-user. They have a white interlocking and flexible armor resembling porcelain covering their bodies. This armor grants them increased resistance to magic. Their physique was designed to grant them increased strength and dexterity and their natural weapons i.e. talons, fangs, and their bodies allow them to more easily take down or take out their targets. These models' superior intelligence allows them to understand and perform a large number of commands and orders. While allowing them the autonomy to perform tasks independently.   Sniffer Hounds: Where designed for urban environments and are able to traverse narrow alleys, streets and hallways, and rooms of buildings. Their short slim physique standing around 3 feet, gives them more maneuverability and allows them to fit through small entrances, and with their developed forearm digits, they can manipulate objects such as doors, vents, etc. Their strong well developed muscular system allows them to hold three times their weight, despite weighing only 80 pounds, given them the ability to easily traverse vertically throughout a cities infrastructure. On top of granting them the ability to combat foes twice their size. They track their targets with the use of a (redacted) specialized organ which allows them to distinguish a magic user's unique chroma (mana) signature and track it even through cover such as walls. They normally track a target in small packs and have a habit of latching on and dragging down a target not letting go until their Proctor (police/guard) handler gives them the command to do so. Sniffer hounds have an advanced olfactory system developed specifically to allow them to track their targets for miles. They are capable of distinguishing their target's smell and separate it from other odors, creating a defined scent image/map.   Hunter Wolves: Unlike Sniffer Hounds, Hunter Wolves are used in more remote and rural areas. Places with dense foliage and rough terrain. Largely used by military and paramilitary organizations. This model is much larger than its precursor the Sniffer Hounds. Standing at least 7 to 9 feet tall and weighing in around 250 to 300 pounds. Unlike most Chimaera models the Hunter Wolves do not have to connect to their "resting" pods every 24 or so hours. Allowing them to be deployed for weeks at a time. (Redacted) This is due to the innovation of unique organs which can carry and release the alchemical tonic that all Chimeric organisms require. As well as the further development and innovation of the tonic itself. Hunters Wolves armored hides are resistant to small arms fire and Weave (spells) giving them the ability to engage groups. Much like the previous model hunter wolves can track the unique chroma of a caster but this ability has been expanded upon allowing them to track targets miles off. adding their developed olfactory system grants them the ability to track targets even near dense pockets of the bright (magical radiation). Which would normally disrupt other model abilities to track a target. Testimonials from frontline soldiers have reported the model taking out groups of armed guards while hunting an enemy Brightbound.

Basic Information

Growth Rate & Stages

Chimaera have two stages of development during production. The first stage of chimeric development is the nascent or embryonic stage. In which null flesh incubation and shaping occurs. The last stage of development of a chimaeric model is the mature stage market by the solidifying of the models organic form and the expression and consolation of the models life threads.

Ecology and Habitats

Chimeara have no natural ecology or habitat but with the introduction of mutagens into the models system either through its resting pods or injected into one of several of the resting pods' tubing connection points. The introduction of new mutagens leads to its transformation and expression of the new life threads introduced into its system. This allows Chimaera to adapt to all situations and environments granted the right mutagens are introduced.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Without a digestive system, chimaera has no dietary needs. Chimaera requires an alchemical tonic to sustain metabolic functions. The makeup of this alchemical tonic is a company secret and allows for a continuous influx of purchases.

Biological Cycle

Cellular decay occurs over time but with constant upkeep and a regular schedule of connection to the models resting pod and injection of the alchemical tonic, Chimaera can last for generations. Many models outlive their former owners and have been passed down several generations or resold in second hand markets.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Both models have advanced olfactory systems. These chimaera have special cells allowing the model to sense chromareception that allows them to home on to Brightbound and other casters. These receptors allow the model to sense the chroma of living beings and being Brightbound and casters have a greater quantity or reserve of chroma specifically if prepared to cast a Weave or when they overcast. This abundance of chroma allows these models to distinguish a Brightbound/caster from normal civilians. It also allows the model to pick up on a Brightbounds unique chroma signature allowing them to target a specific target if commanded to do so. Though occasionally a Bestowed may be targeted for their slightly increased chroma reserve. Both models have an integrated bio organic antenna which allows them to be controlled from a distance. These antennae are connected to a control module held normally by the models handler or owner.

Dogs and wolves are really great material for mix with magic and/or fictional high tech. Sooner or later we will start 'uplifting' animals in real life (by now it looks like an inevitable thing, unless humanity gets instinct or scientific advancement brakes for good) and I would bet on dogs for the first candidates for "second class citizenship" in human society.
