Prismatic Fae

Basic Information

Anatomy

Prismatic faes are healing spirits that appear as a light particle attached to two pairs of translucent, colorful wings. Outside of their wings, which are exactly like a butterfly's wings, the fae itself has no body to speak of. The actual wings, despite their softness, seem to be made of very thin crystals--forming something similar to a stained glass window.

Biological Traits

While the type of magic tends to change based on the environmental setting of these beings, not much else will differentiate them. In fact, despite the difference in ambient magic, they all appear to wield the exact same healing magic. Thus, it is inferred that their biology does not change too drastically due to the magic around them.

Ecology and Habitats

While the location can change, as long as there is ambient energy for the fae to survive off of and a method through which it can achieve a physical form in the mortal world, it can survive in any habitat chosen. This will, more often than not, alter its appearance some depending on the kind of ambient magic around it, but nothing more outside of those side effects.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Despite it only requiring ambient magic in order to survive, it does appear to feast on plants and fruits while not actively giving something or someone attention. It can do this even though it lacks a mouth, or at least it looks like it lacks one. The fae seem to do this more for self pleasure rather than a necessity to consume. The same can be said for drinking water.

Behaviour

The fae are extremely caring and gentle creatures. They are known for floating down to dying creatures or people and healing them to perfect health with their magic. These stories have given them a legendary status among adventurers out in the wild who are on the brink of death just for a fae's kiss to bring them back to full health. This unfortunately led to a period of time where they were hunted and captured, though this quickly died out due to faes dying without their magical habitat and/or refusing to heal those who bottle them up.

Additional Information

Social Structure

It is very rare for multiple faes to meet, however it has been noted that they have an understanding of one another, and more often than not have a desire to save the same people. In fact their magic is exponentially boosted depending on the number of faes present, and have at times been capable of not only healing an adventurer, but boosting their capabilities as well.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Use to faes were captured in an attempt to sell them as a way to revive a fallen person if they were just released from the bottle, since people believed it was by command or proximity to a fae that caused the healing. In truth, it required the will of the fae in the first place to heal, which was hardly found by faes who were captured and trapped in bottles like commodities. On top of this, without the ambient magic of their homes, they would end up dying and disappearing within their bottles before use, making them quite useless. Over time, this practice began to fall apart for the aforementioned reasons.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Despite their rarity, there doesn't seem to be a location where they don't appear. The only real rule that they tend to follow is their inclination towards locations that are a bit more hidden from the public eye, such as magic springs or sealed off sanctuaries. They also prefer locations with flora to eat, however this is not always the case such as faes within deserts or tundras.

Average Intelligence

While it could be argued that their intelligence is extremely close to being sapient, they don't really display much more than some basic understanding of what people are saying. They are said to be, in a way, an extension of the love and care of the goddess of nature, but there are no sources that can truly confirm this.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The fae, despite lacking a body, appear to have all five senses and even have the ability to detect ambient magic, which it can use to locate presences within its domain. This is mostly due to how intune it is with the nature around it.

Average Physique
Prismatic faes are extremely frail like most insects their size, specifically butterflies. While they don't necessarily die, more just return to what entity created them, they can be harmed and injured which is something very easily done--even by accident.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The prismatic part of their name is given by the color of their wings, which can cycle through the colors of the rainbow, even if the tint leans in the direction of whichever biome they are found in. For example, a fire prismatic fae may have an orange and red tinge to their already colorful wings. Their actual body, which is a spec of light, tends to remain more of a solid color based on the type of ambient magic around them.
