Writing to me is a strange hobby for a couple of reasons. While it’s one of the few hobbies I have that suffers from my procrastination (and the fact that my attention span is akin to that of a goldfish), it’s a hobby I’m actually somewhat decent at. I’m not terrible at it like with everything else in my life. Maybe that isn’t correct; it might be more apt to say that I have a bit more pride in writing as opposed to everything else. It plays a special, different role in my life; a role which is what truly defines it as strange. It is very surreal compared to absolutely everything else in my life. Gaming is normal for me, engineering is normal for me, but not writing. Writing is incredibly different in regards to normal. Oftentimes I feel my mind drift away in a trance to create millions of stories all clustered in one big world, no matter how minute the story may be in comparison to the grander design or even neighboring lives and tales. I feel that these stories have a real effect and connection to my own thoughts, memories, and sometimes even my dreams; in which case I sometimes live what I write when I sleep. I feel this deep connection with writing is what helps me deal with anxiety and is also why, despite burning out creatively at times, I can't stop writing, and have such a massive desire to create something professionally in the future. There is this personal..."something else'' with writing that makes it so special. As if it were the key to figuring myself out at times, or a way for people to understand me. I hope these feelings towards writing propel its quality in the future. What inspires me to write is difficult to pin down, and frankly the real reason I believe that I am so inspired would be a novel in its own right to explain. To put it simply, past memories, events, and media that I consume all feed into the pool of inspiration I draw from when I write. Even what I hope to be my magnum opus one day is just a completely fantasized version of what would be considered an autobiography. Truthfully most things I write are in some way representative of issues or strife I have had to overcome or am still overcoming in current times. That special something I referred to earlier may be the fact that writing is a way of unraveling myself in a way that I can't even come close to doing in person--at least that is the running theory I have. Regardless I find inspiration in concepts through media, and then try to do a unique spin on the idea while supplementing the concept with a story based around my own experience; all of which is altered to fit my target genre. I started writing when I was young, though my memory is too foggy to specify a specific age. My grandmother was the first person to teach me different ways of writing. She did christian stories for church and a christian forum, however her stories were never direct. Her stuff was about fantasy, guilds, and adventures! Most biblical literature in the church was very direct and straightforward, but she loved subtlety and symbolism similar to Narnia and I loved it. She taught me how to be a world builder and how symbolism worked, and thus that became my specialty in writing as I grew up. Despite problems using too many commas, sentence structure issues, grammar, semi-colons, and more than likely things I don't even know yet, what I do know is that I have a lock on story. It has always been my focus to bring the most believable, detailed, thought out stories out there that both entertain and pass along experiences and lessons from my own life so that others and myself can understand this crazy thing called life. I hope that with the help of World Anvil and the community here that I might be able to make some professional work and finally gain some notoriety with my work!
