Liminal Hound

Basic Information

Anatomy

Sporting a body that, much like most creatures in the liminal dimension, tends to shift around like an amorphous mass, liminal hounds are actually much more consistently put together than most other entities. While their bodies drip with eldritch ooze, they are for the most part completely whole. They appear to be large, armored, hunchbacked beasts that run on all fours. They are covered in extremely sharp ridges, horns, and spikes to ensure nothing can safely touch them, and have a large maw filled with teeth for a face--so many teeth that the teeth are the only thing that closes the mouth. They have unique looking limbs that appear to be more sludge-like, and are incapable of forming much more than tendrils with swing about wildly on their own.

Ecology and Habitats

Liminal hounds, as the name implies, populate most of the liminal dimension. While other creatures are a bit more dormant or passive, and have to either detect prey or be provoked by one, hounds are extremely active hunters and act as the main patrol for the liminal dimension. They are always skulking around in the liminal space, searching for something to hunt and kill, with no real destination in mind. While they don't hunt in packs, their numbers far outweigh any other creature in the space, and thus are the most frequent to run into.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures do not require any form of sustenance in order to survive within the liminal realm. The ambient energy of this dimension appears to be enough to keep most entities within it alive on their own, especially due to the lack of any real prey to naturally hunt within it.

Behaviour

While other entities are stronger and more effective hunters within the liminal realm, the first entity one may encounter is the weak liminal hounds. While they are weaker, they are much more dangerous due to how much more actively they hunt. Most treks across the liminal dimension are going to be done with one of these creatures tailing the person in question nearly at all times. Not to mention, despite being weaker, they are still more than capable of ripping apart whole buildings, and are even capable of hiking themselves up onto their hind legs in order to bellow out a beam of fire from their maws in order to attack from range.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

The face of the liminal hounds appear to only be a row of razor sharp teeth that have an eerie orange glow to them, though this may also be a result of the orange glow that pulses from deep within their maw–likely from the flames they tend to spit forth. They have a very slender and smooth looking head which lacks eyes, with hardly noticeable nostrils. Despite this fact, they are still shocking good hunters when it comes to scent.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Liminal hounds are found all over the liminal dimension, and don't appear to have any restrictions of where they might end up. It is safe to assume that, no matter where one goes within this dimension, there will be a hound searching around for its next prey within that location. While there are some minor restrictions on where one might find a hound based on its size, these restrictions are few and far between.

Average Intelligence

These creatures completely lack intelligence, exclusively focusing on hunting down anything they manage to detect by sound or smell. Once they manage to pick up something, they immediately become hostile and attempt to seek out the would-be prey to devour it. Once this is complete, they will continue patrolling the liminal space in order to repeat the process.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Liminal hounds appear to lack any kind of sight, favoring smell as their method of hunting. Their extremely keen sense of smell is incredibly accurate, and more often than not a dead give away for any prey trying to hide from one of these creatures. If it can not smell its prey, it also has a very accurate ear that it uses to hunt down its prey.

Average Physique
While smaller and weaker than most entities found in this realm, they are no slouches and will easily cause buildings to crumble in pursuit of entities to kill and devour. The only thing that holds back their power is their size, which is rather small as far as liminal entities come, but they make up for this in the explosive beam of fire they can produce from their maws which can both blow apart and burn down structures in their way.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
These creatures, aside from the glow of their maw, are entirely jet black much like the eldritch magic used to create and sustain them. This distinct coloration does not change between hounds. While the tint can appear to change at times, this is more likely due to the flames within their body raging against the walls of their form, typically before they launch it out as an attack.
