Formation of the First Sunarian Empire

Founding

Emerging from the First Intermediate Period under Sunas' leader, the "The First Emperor" Lower Sunar is unified once more, and built into the First Sunarian Empire. This would be the first real state in history, thanks largely to its centralization of power in Sunas and efforts to codify its legal code.   -------------------------------------------------------------   Upper Sunar continued to exist as numerous minor cities vied for control, but never coalesced into a long term or stable power, as a result, the south slowly begins to fall into the shadow of the unified and structured territories of the north.

The Sunarian Empire differed from earlier civilizations because of its status as one of the first centralized states. Unlike its predecessors in Phernac and the Kingdom, the First Sunarian Empire brought an end to the tributary system, replacing it with a more structured system of taxation based around first, wheat, and then later silver coinage.   Despite being the most centralized state of its time, the First Empire remained a multicultural state for most of its history. While Sunarians made up the bulk of its citizenry, it was also home to sizable populations of migrants from Drumidia and Nebtka, as well as smaller tribal groups, dwelling along the desert's edge on both the west and east bank of the Sun.   "For the first time yet, it was not a city-state dominating other city-states, but a capital controlling its subject cities and provinces, backed behind real law, and not the might of the king's armies."
