Moirai

Written by ThetaSigma

The Moirai were inspired by the Keres from Greek mythology, who were avenging spirits. That's kind of what these guys are, only not overtly, usually. Most of the Moirai are the souls of Astraforia Revenants, called Keres, incubating and slowly growing older until they can become full Astraforia. The rest are Astraforia made beings designed to look after them, and avenge them if need be.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Moirai look a lot like your stereotypical ghost. They're made out of energy amd aren't particularly solid. Moirai, unlike your classic ghost, isn't usually white. Nor does it really look like a person. Moirai are different colors, and often tend to glow in those other colors. They don't really look much like humans, more like the vague outline of a scarecrow minus the legs, or some sort of floof animal, like a cat. Moirai are also very wispy, like clouds, and wisps tend to float off them like smoke and fade away.

Genetics and Reproduction

Moirai cannot reproduce, as far as I know. The only thing that comes close is if a Revenant dies, its soul becomes a Moirai.

Growth Rate & Stages

Very slow.

Ecology and Habitats

The Moirai live in a forest in a dimension just next to a very boring version of Earth where nothing interesting happens. It's very misty there and there's a lot of places where they can set up camp and do their own thing. There are also holes into this boring version of Earth the Moirai can go through (usually accidentally), but they're hard to see and Moirai are discouraged from going through them. Moirai still go through them though, either on accident or because of a dare. This is why there are people who say they've had an encounter with the super-natural oops.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Moirai feed off energy. They're like energy vampires, but worse because it needs to be soul energy. Luckily, they don't need much very often, just a fraction of a soul every 100,000 years. Unluckily, no one really likes giving up their soul, even just a fraction of it, so the Moirai have to resort to trickery to eat. Like tricking some humans into their dimension and feeding off them slowly until they die or loose their souls.   Interestingly, they can eat some human foods? Like carrots. However, this has little to no nutritional value and this is not a good source of food for the Moirai.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Most Moirai have your usual five senses that humans have, plus some magic stuff. Keres have the same abilities they did before they died, though they're capable of learning the skills of Keres with different gifts after being dead a few thousand years. Moirai who aren't Keres don't have powers like that usually. They can make themselves solid and increase their strength to ten times that of a human, but other than that, cannot do magic. Ezceptions to that rule are the Tennebrae (really not married to that name ick), a small group of Moirai who were given magic for the sole purpose of protecting the Keres if the non-magical, non-Keres Moirai failed.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Names are all over the place. There are names from many different cultures and not all of them are human so it's pretty confusing.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

This really varies, again, mostly because of the Keres. The MAIN languages are English, Cycadian, and the language of the Non-Keres Moirai I've yet to name....

Historical Figures

The Great Mother Alastor Vedis Leonard the Cat

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Moirai interact mainly with three other sapient species: the Synth, the Humans, and the Imaginarium.   The Moirai, even if they were once human, view humans as a food source mainly. A food source they can talk to and hang with and become friends with, but still a food source. Non-Keres Moirai tend to view humans as nothing more than useful fleshy puppets you can eat.   Moirai think the Imaginarium are pretty weird for sticking into humans the way they do, but otherwise respect them. The Synth they despise. The Synth try to destroy them and they're EVIL.
