Ashfall

Manifestation

A World Teeming with Life

Forests of viridian, teeming with bird and beast. Verdant flowery fields buzzing with insects. Lush river valleys. Misty mountain tops. Rock peppered prairies. No more. That was the world before The Ashfall. That's when it all changed, when fire rained down upon the world.

The Fall

First and most noticeable were the fiery rockfalls. The ground was rumbling for months across the northern front. Forests charred, fields burned, the world was awash with fiery orange. It was followed by the black rain. It came to be known as the Ashfall, a regular reminder of the world's imminent end. It continued to rain for a long time and the fallout radius only grew as time went on. As it continued, the few places that hadn't been touched by rock and flame ended up beneath ash anyway. Life teetered on the edge of a knife. Few died in the physical destruction, the aftermath however, was far worse. Plants began to suffocate in a land poisoned by ash. The animals that relied on them followed suit. Few creatures were adapted for the new climate. Even fewer roamed what - at this point - was being called the Ashlands. A swath of land the size of a sea, buried beneath a mountain of ash. Streams of molten rock still course through the land like burning veins. Then there are the denizens, the creatures of rock and flame. The ones sane people avoid and term demons. Silca

Skies of Gray

If it couldn't get any worse, the eruptions that were still going centuries later, were only ramping up. Less rock and flame fell from the sky but in its place came a flood of toxic gases. They collected to replace clouds in the skies and settled in valleys as a poisonous haze. More death. Always more death followed changes on this scale. The rare chance of once watery rain came with a healthy dose of acid. Even the most resilient of crops struggled. Blue sky hasn't been seen in quite some years. Perpetual smoky haze clings to the domain above, and so it remains.
