The Birth of a Trade Nation

High in the tall branches, the Strix of the Arengold Forest have began to organize. Started in 2989 PW, the Strix Trade Organization has allowed almost all members of the Arengold Forest to gain access to the rare metals of the Highest Branches, and have put Strix years ahead in technology.

Typically, a Strix tribe uses superior flight and hunting techniques to dominate the airspace and keep others from their territory. In recent years, however, good relationships with the Humans have caused them to be significantly more willing to experiment with trade. They are interested, especially, in the ingenuity of human and elven tools of war, which the Strix have utilized to improve their hold on the Highest Branches.

The structure of the contract is simple, but written using the highly poisonous Eldberry to ensure that both sides of the deal are serious about the proposition. The Strix are then allowed to ferry their cargo back and forth; any thievery or assault is not tolerated, and instantly causes problems between the Strix and the tribe being delivered to. The Tribes are therefore careful to watch the Roots that the Strix will be near, to ensure that their trade deal remains solid.

To augment their trade, they need to have some hierarchy, some communication strategy. Their leader, Brusella Talltalon, is the overseer and by far most business-minded Strix in their history. With her help, the Organization has been able to form multiple neutral contracts between warring races; Elves and Humans alike must sign these contracts to avoid pulling the Strix into their foolish skirmishes.

Despite their name, the Organization currently holds the entire Strix population. Strix are rather small in number, due to living in an incredibly dangerous section of the Arengold Tree. So, they all follow the Organization's rules and contracts to survive in a harsh geopolitical environment.

Because of this, Brusella has essentially become the leader of the Strix. While she is respected by her fellow feathered people, very few would call her a chieftain, president, or anything similar to the title of leader. Talltalon seems to want to change that.
