Sea-foam silk

A lone child sits on the beach. She is gazing out at a stormy ocean, watching the wind whipping the sea into a frenzy of rolling waves, each one brushed with a soft sprinkling of foam as they crash into the yellow sand. She stares into the stony sky, with banks of cloud layered close together, churning in the wind which makes her squint. She hugs her knees and inches closer to where the waves crash, gentle in spite of their fury, regular in spite of their chaos. A larger wave cascades onto the shore, the crest just splashing her with it's cold green mass, vibrant under the dark sky. She shivers, but is astounded at the softness of the sea-foam that brushed against her. The wave rears again, but this time she flicks her hand and the wave crashes just short of the shore. From then on, the sea stops before it reaches her, and only the silky foam crawls up the beach, where it collects, layer on layer, at her feet. Sea-foam silk is considered by many to be the most luxurious and delicate of all fabrics, though is seldom found in even the wardrobes of monarchs. This is because sea-foam silk is made as a gift, it's magic made unique for who it was created for by primal spirits of seas and storms. These recipients are those who gain a spiritual connection to the sea or the storm, and the silk is worn by many magicians who gain their power from such forces as a kind of badge of honor.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Sea-foam silk is a light cloth, cold to touch, but warm to wear. It is white in colour, but shimmers a deep blue green when near the sea or a storm. To wear it feels less like wearing clothing, and more like being wraped in a whirlwind of gentle, warm wind, in contrast to the unforgiving fury of the thunderstorm.

Origin & Source

Sea foam silk comes into existence when a mortal experiences a strong connection to the forces of storm or sea, and therefore, is created at the coast by layers of sea foam placed layer by layer, bonded by the sea's primal magic, into a workable fabric. When it comes to making the fabric into a garment, it can be tailored as with common fabric. Being the epitome of beauty and luxury in a fabric, it is every tailor's dream to handle and craft with sea-foam silk. However, if they even keep a cutting of the fabric, it will simply dissolve into seawater.

Life & Expiration

The silk remains as long as it's owner is alive and worthy of wearing the silk. If the owner breaks from the sea spirits, the fabric is stolen, of the owner dies, the fabric melts away into what is is ultimately made of: sea foam.
