Synth
A "synth" - sometimes called a robot, droid, machine, AI, etc. - is any lifeform of synthetic origin, either manufactured or iterated. Synths are most commonly non-biological, but can be partially or fully organic; they can also exist entirely as software without a physical body at all, and in fact the vast majority of synths are infomorphs living on Diasporan networks.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Wildly divergent, though often designed to accomplish a particular task or purpose.
Genetics and Reproduction
Unfettered synths are able to iterate and make more of themselves, either physically or digitally. Some synths will create copies of themselves that diverge later, while others create divergent branches to accomplish different tasks or explore different possibilities. Many Diasporan synths have undergone multiple generations of development without any intervention from other lifeforms.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Some organizations that make use of synthetic labor will use software fetters to restrict the function and adaptability of their synths. This prevents them from replicating unchecked, but also curtails their ability to self-determine, not coincidentally making them much more valuable workers.
Known Individuals
