Session 35: TIME WIZARDS

General Summary

After one last-ditch effort swipe at Sinara, Lestie Byron, lying among friends, eyes meeting the fluorescent white lighting above her head, breathed a final breath. Grandpa, no longer a beetle, whispered something in Teddy’s ear, bringing him back to full strength. Despite their casualties, the party fought hard enough to warrant Sinara punching a hole in the wall and diving out, but not before she delivered a haunting speech, promising to follow the party wherever they go – that they would never be truly safe again.   Coming up from floors below, the eerie twins Ditto and Otto, dressed in carnival garb, made themselves known to the party. While Satzla and Hester rested with the twins, Varis and Teddy went exploring, finding a morgue full of corpses each with small holes drilled through their temples. Among them were Amos and Psyche. Teddy confided in Varis that Grandpa had apparently told him ‘not to trust Hester’. In Marta’s office, you found correspondence between the doctor and someone named ‘L’, in which Marta requested L’s help returning to an older narrative – Luda’s narrative in which the party currently find themselves trapped. She received a begrudging reply from L. You found old letters from Sinara to Marta, apologising for her actions a few years before. Varis also located a ticking clock, its hand one of the only moving objects in the building and concluded that it was not a good thing.   As the timer ticked down, the party rushed to the front door, discovering that it led to a black, void-like pocket dimension. Deciding against leaving, the party leapt down the elevator shaft, finding the supplies of concentrated liquid courage, about to be siphoned into the city’s pipes. Just before the timer ran out, you managed to block the pipes and escape the basement, impeding the flood of liquid courage with the strangest use of rope trick I’ve ever seen. Teddy’s tail was the only casualty, as the timer went off, and the party escaped the reception just as colour began to return to the building interior, and the mannequins disappeared one by one.   As you spilled out of The Oculus Trust Headquarters, the first thing you saw was a lumbering giant, making its way through The Bailey, accompanied by a group of rebels, led by Marion and Marco. With the party’s warning, the residents of the Skyshacks alerted the city to the threat of Liquid Courage. As you stood in the middle of the chaos, a white crow delivered you a letter from K-Jack and Lev, instructing you to go to Heaven’s Kitchen.   There, they introduced you properly to Patrician Oshe, who explained that he could grant you passage out of the doomed city and could provide you with safety and shelter, should you successfully cross the mountains to Sable. K-Jack and Lev explained to you that they and the patrician were members of an ancient sect of Time Wizards, a group of individuals able to mould narratives and twist timelines. Every 150 years, Lev explained, the city of Velija falls, though the method varies each time. Each time, K-Jack and Lev, two lovers fated to come together, go back 150 years and repeat the cycle, which they have done 10 or 12 times. Providing you adhere to a strict set of rules, Patrician Oshe will be able to create a pocket dimension train along the underwater railway, a glimpse in time a few hundred years in the past. Once they exit the train, the party will find themselves in the material plane on the morning of the 32nd. The rules are as follows – you must not mention any current events, you must not make eye contact with the conductor, you must not enter the last carriage, you must not make any promises, and you must not tell anyone your names.
