Session 27: Courage and Cowardice

General Summary

As a foggy morning merged with midday in the Tawny Treads, the party elected to view one of Superintendent Lev’s sermons, which turned out to be an advertisement for peaceful revolution through meditative practices and yoga. He also revealed that he had seen a bleak future – dead seas and fields covering the All Sanctum, wealth to the Adium Asai, death to Atakias. You also discovered Lev was putting his congregation under mild sedation via orange pills. Varis prayed to whatever God would listen, and as he did so, the magical auras of embroidered figures holding hands around the tent’s walls illuminated. Varis felt a hand in his hand, a brief but warm guidance.   After the service, Lev reluctantly shared with you the story of his adopted son, Cage Kennickity, and his transition to becoming a super soldier, delivering an explanation as to the recent developments in Heaven’s Kitchen and the broader city; The Watchwards, the Oculus Trust, and all the people between the cracks. It was then revealed that Lev and K-Jack, as a reward for their service, still had Cage confined to a small children’s tea table in the adjacent room. You were introduced to Cage, who is effectively undead, animated by the blue pulsing in his veins. Luda recognised his maimed face from her childhood and contacted her patron, Ramia, with whom she attempted to negotiate a division of her own power, but eventually realised it would be virtually futile. You arranged an appointment in the afternoon with Lev to read Petunia Quain’s future remotely for 100 gold. Varis contacted Psyche, who explained that she was responsible for the strange attacks in East Markets, relieving people of their souls. They agreed to meet with her outside Heaven’s Kitchen, hoping to find and exact revenge upon S and rescue Vanya. You gathered outside Heaven’s Kitchen, met a living statue, and with some difficulty found your way inside the vacated warehouse, where you had just seen a procession of watchwards, including Sinara, enter. You spied on The Watchwards, before revealing yourself. After a tense conversation between Luda and S, the latter agreed to take Luda and her friends to the Treasure Trove.   Deep beneath the city, Sinara proudly showed off her brutal Human experiments, including a man creatively robbed of his senses, as well as the familiar Captain Alexis Quain, who seems to have not reached her mission destination of Balyat, and eventually, Vanya. In accordance with Sinara’s earlier childhood reminiscence, the waitress had been relieved of her legs, and lay recovering on an old mattress. Sinara permitted the party entry to the cell, but Olechka and Morres refused to enter. And for good reason, as Lestie, Varis, Marcus, and Luda knelt to aid Vanya, the heavy metal door to the cage swung shut. Locked. Prisoners like Sinara’s other toys.
