Bierrbereies

There are many questions when it comes to the Bierrberries. How did they evolve? Why did they evolve? Their entire species seems to disobey every natural law that we know of.
Bierrbereies are a sapient species of aquatic mammals from Ouwowa, known to Humans as Gliese 1214-b. They come from a strange planet, which is unlike any other known planet, in that it is a water world with a thick, hot, atmosphere.    They are carnivorous and swallow their food without chewing on it, despite having teeth. If their food is too big to swallow whole they will tear it apart before eating it. Bierrbereies will often eat together, swimming around their food when eating it. The reason for this is unknown.    Bierrberries eat two meals a day. The amount of water they drink has never been monitored, as it's hard to monitor the intake of an aquatic species.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bierrbereies have two arms and two legs, as well as several fins down their backs. Their feet and hands are webbed, with helps with swimming.

Genetics and Reproduction

A lot of bierrberries would be considered zoophiles by most other species, as they often prefer to... err... do the do... with other, less sentient, species from their planet, which makes talking about reproduction rather complicated. When they do mate with each other, that actually makes things even more complicated. The age of which they reach adulthood depends on where they come from, but for females it is mostly between 15 and 18, but in some locations they reach adulthood as young as 13, or stay a child until the age of 21. Males take longer, with most reaching adulthood at about 21, but as early as 16 or as late as 27.   Healthy gestation can last any time between 11 and 17 months.   No other sentient species has reproductive cycles as complicated, but one semi-sentient species has one similar, Earth’s dolphins.

Growth Rate & Stages

Growth rate is... complicated (see section on reproduction) biologically they go through four stages, babyhood, childhood, adulthood and elder, but socially some go through a young adult stage, where they are biologically adults, but are under 21. Young adults are permitted to have relationships with each other, but no other age group is allowed to.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

All over their planet.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They generally have poor eyesight, due to the general darkness of their planet’s oceans, their hearing is possibly the best of all the known species in the galaxy, and their language is often used even when alone as a form of echolocation.
