Krysmila

Lesser Queen Krysmila "Demon Eater" Krysa-Bemont

Krysmila is the aunt and heir of the current Empress of Lamara, Krysala the Invincible. Krysmila wants to be the Empress. If Krysala dies or abdicates before she has any kids then Krysmila gets the throne, with it being considered more legitimate/accepted if Krysala abdicates - even if under threat of death.

Lamara is a feudal country and one where the crown is far less powerful than the vassals, who collectively control far more land, soldiers and wealth than the crown, so if enough of the vassals like a viable candidate more than the current ruler they can launch an ol' fashioned Gamey Thrones style civil war.

Yeah, I think we know what's gonna happen lmao.

Personal history

Born as the first of Mad Empress Jalana's children, she was set for the throne. However, after Jalana publicly cut off the testicles of her 2nd husband in order to use his lack of them as grounds for a divorce - something he agreed to on the basis of considering his testicles less valuable than being the hell away from her, she got a 3rd husband.

Krysmila was raised by her father after that, which happened when she was a year old, and when she was 2 her little half sister was born, but Jalana refused to name her second child for 10 years.

This is a Krysmila article, not a Jalana article, but some core information is provided here about Jalana:

Show spoiler
- Jalana is believed to have had 16 children, possibly 27... yeah 11 kids may or may not have existed. It's confirmed that 5 of them died in her palace, and all but one of the rest were raised outside of the palace. It's not even clear if any of them other than her eldest, Krysmila, were legitimate, as Jalana regularly married and then killed/divorced men, some of whom aren't even named, at the same time as likely having many extramarital affairs with her slaves and servants.

- 16 kids is far more than the usual 1-3 had by most magic women. Being in a magic family reduces your fertility, and the royals were magic. Also Jalana was on a lot of drugs. Some of the children may not have actually been hers and were simply baby Krysa placed on its doorsteps to get picked up by the priests and have a chance of being the future ruler.

- The only of her kids that grew up in the palace with their ma and lived to adulthood was Krysa, eldest of the 3 pretty-much-they-sure-do-look-like-him confirmed children of Jalana's favourite ever husband, who she divorced and then remarried 3 separate times before he died from a mixture of a drug overdose and bleeding.

- Jalana didn't run anything during her rule except for occasionally putting out nonsense orders, only a few of which were actually carried out. The vassals and administrators essentially had free reign to run their territories and fight one another. So long as slaves, money, food and drugs kept going into the royal palace, Jalana didn't seem to care how the empire at large was being run. When armies did come to depose Jalana, they were slaughtered by Jalana and her allies and the survivors imprisoned under Jalana's palace to serve as her toys.

- Jalana's behaviour only got worse over time, including up to when she took over as ruler. Vassals and administrators did deliberately send agents to add to this to ensure that she never got any ideas about running things herself.

- Jalana's palace was not a nice place to be. Jalana knew how to act with elegance and regality with important people visiting the palace, and treated her bodyguards with enough respect and paid them enough for them to keep her alive despite the best efforts of many of her slaves, but holy shit was being one of her slaves or servants a bad, terrible time. Let's just say she enjoyed torture, blood sports, death games and something very fucked up beginning with the letter r - whether she was the one personally tormenting and killing people or just watching others be tormented and killed.

- Most of Jalana's husbands were attractive young male servants and slaves. She was known to gain an obsessive infatuation with a man, marry him and then get bored of him within a few days, killing or divorcing him and then getting infatuated with another man.

- Jalana's reign ended when she declared that there would be a Krysa-only free-for-all battle in an arena in her palace, and that the last Krysa standing in the arena would be named her successor. The winner was one of her daughters, Krysa, who then killed Jalana for showing no sadness at the knowledge that her only son and Krysa's full-blooded brother had died in the fighting.

So, Krymsila's ma was fucking insane but Krysmila was raised by her dad far away from that madhouse palace, not exactly having a normal childhood but a more normal one than most of her siblings. Her dad married a different woman, resulting in Krysmila having 3 normal, non-magic, non-royal (but still of noble blood) stepsiblings, who were all also younger than her... using perceived superiority to turn her step-siblings into glorified lackeys goes brrr.

Krysmila had not been disinherited. She was the eldest child. It made sense she'd be next to rule.

On Krysmila's 17th birthday, she learned that the Mad Empress, her mother, Jalana would be hosting a series of games and performances in the arenas in and near her palace.

Fucked up competitions and performances in which Jalana finally put her sadism on display for nobility and lesser royalty from across Lamara to see, turning widespread rumours into concrete fact, filled the days, but the most important one was the last.

The last Krysa standing in the main arena at the end of the day would be named Jalana's successor. No non-Krysa could go in the arena.

Now, Krysmila was somewhat naïve. She jumped in the arena and yelled that, as Jalana's eldest child, she was the rightful heir and that any who stepped in to oppose her would be forced to kneel before her as she's be empowered by the gods - and her saying they'd kneel instead of die was the biggest confirmation out of those 2 things that she wasn't as dangerous as she wanted people to think in that moment.

Other Krysa rushed in and started killing and maiming each other immediately. Krysmila bringing armour, a shield, a sword and a knife made a difference between her living and dying, mostly because her holding up the sword and shield at the same time was enough for her helmet to soften a blow to her head enough for it to only knock her out instead of outright kill or permanently disable her.

In just a few minutes, it was done.

Krysa stood atop countless corpses. Krysmila was hidden among the dead, covered in injuries, but jolted up when some blood got in her mouth.

Krysa almost immediately came over and punched Krysmila in the face with a crystal-hardened fist.

In the bloodbath, Krysa had lost her brother - not just her full blood brother but a brother she'd been raised with and who she'd planned to co-rule with after they both got through the bloodbath.

By the time Krysa came to her senses and stopped short of beating her older half-sister to death Krysmila had humiliated herself begging for mercy. She called herself weak, swore she'd never be a threat to her younger sister's rule, said she'd be Krysa's slave and do whatever she wanted if she was spared. Even when Krysa had come to her senses and stopped but still had a berserker's rage in her eyes, Krysmila kept begging. She even said what was in her most treasured letter.

4 years earlier, when Krysmila was 13, she got a letter from Jalana. It had been sent on a whim, and was full of strange ramblings, sentences that made no sense and no clear structure, but from it a lot could be found about Jalana.

Show spoiler
The letter had 21 different pieces of parchment used in it. Most of it was ineligible.

It started with Jalana saying she's not sure she can love.

It stated that Jalana had to be reminded of the existence of her eldest daughter, that she'd forgotten giving birth to her, but when prompted did remember that Krysmila had refused to breastfeed from Jalana, but had happily breastfed from a wet nurse, and that Jalana often picked up Krysmila incorrectly, with nurses having to rush over and put their hands under Krysmila's head to support her neck.

Jalana remembered that she'd been underwhelmed by how much crystal baby Krysmila could produce, that even for a baby it had been pathetic, and it might've been upon seeing that that Jalana lost interest in at least trying to act like a mother to Krysmila and gave Krysmila's dad the opportunity to leave her. Jalana said that, with that man's blood in her veins, it was no wonder Krysmila was such a weak Krysa.

Jalana blamed Krysmila for Jalana not loving her, saying it was Krysmila's fault for refusing to breastfeed and for being such a weak Krysa, and Jalana blamed Krysmila for Jalana not being able to love people like normal people do, that she was told having a child would make her feel the greatest love she'd ever felt and that should've made her able to know what it's like to love other people too and feel the same happiness as most people but that that didn't happen and it was Krysmila's fault. Jalana asked if Krysmila was a punishment from the gods for how much pain Jalena had given to the world around her.

It sad that Jalana'd had 2 children with her current husband, and that it was like the gods had personally made him for her, that until recently she still hadn't loved him but had liked him the way a greedy person loves gold or a glutton loves food, but now felt pretty sure what she felt for them was love, or something close to it, and that maybe, given time, that could branch into Jalana being able to love people other than them, like Krysmila, too, and that if it got to that point she might send another letter demanding Krysmila come over so that Jalana can get to know her and maybe come to love her eldest daughter.

The idea that her mother might one day care about her, but didn't, had always been ripping Krysmila apart from the inside and, like a coward, spilled her guts out about the contents to Krysa in the hopes of getting pity and being spared, but Krysa wasn't even listening as she was struggling to come to her senses from a berserker rage.

Someone hiding among the corpses tried to kill Krysa, and Krysa killed them before wordlessly trapping Krysmila in crystal.

Krysa was the last standing in the arena. Over 2 hundred had gone in. 2-3 dozen were still alive, and all too injured to keep fighting or trapped in crystal or both. Krysa was victorious.

Jalana threw buckets of freezing water onto Krysa, complaining she was dirty with blood and she needed to be clean when claimed as successor. Krysa stood and took it, secretly happy that being soaking wet helped to hide her tears, knowing she couldn't look weak in front of the nobles that filled the seats of the stadium: excuses would be made for a mad or an evil monarch, but a ruler would never be forgiven for being perceived as weak.

Jalana made a big mistake during her successor selection speech: she brought up Krysa's brother. This also made Krysmila realize that Krysa was one of the childred Jalana thought she felt love for, and jealousy filled her. Krysa broke down at the mention of him, leapt forward and killed Jalana while screaming at her.

After calming down, Krysa took the crown off of Jalana's head and placed it on her head. The succession speech hadn't gotten to the part where Krysa was officially named successor, so the crown legally still should've gone to Krysmila, but nobody contested it.

Krysmila was jealous of Krysa for having been on the receiving end of something like love from their mother and that she now had the throne despite it being against the law. Krysmila hated Krysa for killing her only hope of knowing what it's like to be loved by one's mother, and for making her humiliate herself in front of so many people.

Krysa ruled for 7 years before she died giving birth to her heir, Krysala. Krysa only died giving birth to Krysala due to Krysmila poisoning her, with the poison not being strong enough to kill her outright but strong enough to weaken her enough that she died giving birth to her daughter.

Krysmila married one of Lamara's most powerful vassals, who wants to ensure the children he's had with her sit on the throne by dethroning Krysala. She now seeks to kill Krysala, or at least force her to abdicate.
