The Empires were 5 super states that controlled the lands and power of all of Thar'kor for thousands of years. In there heyday the empires where paragons of excellence, wealth, prosperity and development. Magic was common place and used to the benefit of man kind and the 5 major power held a peaceful balance of power for the majority of the imperial age. Occasional small wars and skirmishes occurred but the majority of political issues were solved with diplomacy and trade. The leaders of the realms acknowledged the greater good of the maintenance of a balance of power. From roughly 200 IA (Imperial Age) to 600 IA the realm was peaceful and prosperous. Magic was embraced as a mainstay of daily life. This became know as the imperial golden age.   But with great power and wealth come corruption and power seeking. Towards the end of the golden age from circa 500 IA to 600 IA the wealth of the empire had become tied into family lines, political houses, military leaders, powerful magic users and trade guilds. The control of wealth and power increase the disparity of wealth between the classes, creating a vast gap between the rich and powerful and the rest of society. The only means of gaining power and prestige for commoners came through military advancement or magical power.   This lead to the rule of the tyrants from 600 IA to 900 IA, a increasingly dark and brutal period of the empires, marked by civil wars, conflicts of expansion and absolute rule. Increasingly dark sources of magic were exploited to gain power and control of the world until at the end of the age the Empire of Dra'thok the central empire began a expansion in league with demonic powers and dark forces that threatened to descend the world into an age of evil and enslavement.   The remaining empires, free states and rebels within the Dra'thok empire united to strike down the Imperial council and the portals that were used to summon their demonic forces and seal of the necromantic source of the Emperor's power.   The Dra'thok Empire was destroyed in 958 IA beginning the Post Imperial Age (PIA).
