The Northern Desert Expanse
The Northern desert is a massive region at the northern most regions of the Thar’kor continent. It is hot and windswept land of large seas of sand suns that shift and move across the plains making the region difficult to traverse. Edging the plains are rocky outcrops and plateaus which hid caves and sheltered oasis that provide small pockets of life in the hostile landscape. Throughout the sand plains there are sparse oasis's featuring small water sources and lush green vegetation surrounding these points. These areas attract all manner of life from the local beasts and pack animals through to human settlements and other entities. The desert stretches the breadth of the Thar’kor continent spanning 3,500 km east to west and 700 km north to south. The far northern region is a large volcanic mountain range which is almost always erupting at some point along the range. The southern edge of the desert abruptly shifts from the desert to the natural grasslands, jungles and swamplands that border the region, given a clue to the unnatural origin of this desert scape. The temperature reaches extremes at both night and day with midday temperatures exceeding 50 degrees Celsius, and whilst night time temperatures would be expected to drop below freezing it does not, it stays relatively hot, between 10-20 degrees Celsius. Few know this but the temperature is not driven by the sun but an ethereal closeness to the fire plane. This also causes odd phenomenon to occur through out the desert such as large flame plumes appearing from nowhere, lava flows where logically there should be known and the appearance of Efreeti and fire elementals through out the wastes of the desert dunes.
