Ilthuryn Farxidor of Baquenta

Prompt 16: Somewhere in your world setting describe a great leader of their people.   Ilthuryn Farxidor of Baquenta   The Elven queen of Baquenta, Ilthuryn was a noble and heroic leader. A warrior and poet but most of all, a woman dedicated to the wellbeing of her subjects.   At the onset of the war of the Doomsgate, Baquenta was the first and hardest struck of the elven realms. Due, to the most part, to its borders on the Dark lord's domain and due to the dark lord despising elves more so than most creatures, the armies of the Dark Lord seemed intent on punishing the people of this land more so than any other.   Ilthuryn set herself and her warriors hard into the fray, seeking to harry and delay the dark lord's forces as much as possible to facilitate the evacuation of her people via river barges along the Puullernitisdaq river to the Penksey Bay and on caravans to the western kingdom of Ariamulumia then south via the Tungrum River into the Penksey Bay, where ships were awaiting to ferry her people to the south. Utilising an impressive network of political contacts and calling in favours accrued over many decades she managed to evacuate most of the country's civilian population and established a system to escort many other countries' civilians to safety as well, finding a safe harbour in the southeastern kingdom of Gaversia.   Meanwhile, as Ilthuryn’s troops engaged in skirmishes with the enemy, Ilthuryn set to work notifying the kingdoms of Thar’kor of the approaching threat and the need for an alliance. She was successful in uniting many of the elven kingdoms to fight against the dark lord and rallied a massive force of Elves to stand against the Dark lord's army at The capital City of Baquenta, aiming to halt the Darklords forces at the natural choke point that is Baquenta’s great bridge and remove the advantage of their great numbers. It was a sound plan and the allied forces were confident of a victory. However, Ilturyn and her forces had not foreseen the Darklord’s ruse, moving the bulk of his force via a series of mountain passes, caverns and tunnels, a much greater force approached Baquenter from the north-west. By the time Ithuryn was alerted to the enemy's movements, it was too late, to the northeastern force was already at their gates & to divide her forces would mean certain doom.   There seemed only two choices to stand and fight as heroes and see the sunset for one last time or retreat to fight again if lucky. Ilthuryn chose to fight. With a rousing speech, she encourages her troops to stand by her side, if not for the safety of the rest of Thar’kor then for their loved ones escaping to find safety. Many left, but those who stayed stood and fought braver than most heroes of myth, they held off the dark lord's forces for weeks in a siege that became known as the siege of the dancing lights, due to the flaming projectiles that flew back and forth over the city in the nights. In the end, the city fell as fires raged throughout and the Ilthuryn’s forces fell slowly but surely under the fist of the dark lord’s army. Even now songs are being sung across Thar’kor telling of Ilthuryns great deeds and her heroic last stand in the siege of the dancing lights.
