Voren Henamae

The henamae of Vorendul live as second-class citizens. Many work as servants receiving a menial wage, though some have managed to secure better jobs such as artisans or knights. It is extremely difficult for a Voren henamae to move up the ranks in Southern Vorendul in particular. Slave raids are common in Southern Vorendul, where they are allowed by the government. All of this is due to the conquering of the henamae in a war over territory. The Empire has since outlawed slavery, which is what caused Vorendul to secede from it.

History

The Voren henamae were attempting to migrate east. At the time, the nearby human kingdom, Vorendul, was expanding southwards and met their forces. Over a series of misunderstandings, a war was started over who would get the land. In the end, Vorendul won due to overwhelming force and superior resources (such as the Griffin ). As a compromise, the henamae were forced to stay in the city under human rule, as the kingdom didn't want them returning with more forces.   As a result of this war, many of the Voren people held deep resentments for the henamae. They were treated as second-class citizens and when slavery became an issue in Vorendul, many who would have been otherwise sympathetic turned a blind eye to the atrocities.

Culture

When the henamae were forced into the human kingdom, they assimilated into its culture. It is considered heresy in Vorendul to venerate the Twins as one god as the henamae did, and they were forced to subscribe to the idea of the Twins instead. They haven't retained any culture from their past other than their language and a deep respect for nature. This has led to a 'Burning of the Trees' event in Vorendul as a commemoration of the war and as a showing of superiority over the henamae.
