Tevenari

Tevenari is the name for the rocky, windswept peninsula jutting out from the northwest corner of Walston. Though sometimes referred to as the seventh Sword Pact nation, in truth the other human realms universally disdain the barbaric Tevenar. The Tevenar are the only people to call Tevenari home, a mostly human tribe following a strange, shamanistic religion that is alien to The Pantheon of Saviours . The Tevenar are skilled sailors, though no match for the halflings, and frequently raid the northern and western coasts of Walston. Thus, the Walstoners hate the Tevenar especially, and would gladly launch a military invasion of the forsaken outcropping if not for the natural barrier of the Raidpeaks. Tevenari is allegedly ruled by a man named Hardeculr, who the Tevenar claim is a giant, although Hardeculr has never been seen.

Structure

Whatever structure binds the Tevenar is primitive, with the strongest member of a war band deciding where the longship goes until they are killed in battle, or by a stronger Tevenar. They show little respect for authority, except for an apparently uniform worship of their king, Hardeculr. The Tevenar are believed to maintain small coastal settlements for ship building and fishing, and likely some inland hunting camps. Their lack of concentrated population centres make it extremely difficult to counter their raiding.

Culture

Tevenar culture is markedly different from the other human cultures present in the Sword Pact. Most notably, they eschew worship of the Saviour Gods, an unimaginable blasphemy to other humans. Instead, they have been recorded as venerating various other primitive entities, including the "Blood Spirits" and the "Far Ancients", and Hardeculr himself also seems to be worshipped as a god by some interpretations.   The Tevenar are rarely seen in non-military garb, although this truly just refers to a thick padding of furs which do more to guard against the cold than against weapons. They obtain many important resources, including furs, oil and bone, from hunting the Tusk Giants, massive, dangerous ocean-dwelling mammals found in the deep waters off the coast of Tevenari. Groups of up to thirty longships with twenty rows of oars each have been observed tracking and surrounding these beasts when they surface, with up to a third of these ships being lost in the process.

Public Agenda

If the Tevenar have a unifying goal, it seems to be the plundering of Walston for all of its wealth, and then perhaps to move on to the other Sword Pact nations. What use the Tevenar have for treasures like gold and jewels is unclear, except perhaps that they are shiny and they like to wear them.

Assets

The Tevenar trade with no nation, except exchanging axe blows to the head for someone's worldly possessions. Tevenari is relatively well forested and provides sufficient timber for the Tevenar to construct their sleek longships. They use the resources gained from hunting Tusk Giants for food, heat, clothing and tools, and jealously guard these resources and the Tusk Giant hunting grounds so that these materials are seldom found elsewhere. Overall, Tevenari is an extremely sparse land that offers little to any except those who call it home.
