Order of Archons

The Most Holy and Silent Ancient Order of the Archons of Emuna, shorted to Order of Archons, is a monastic and military order of Hierophants and Deacons within the Haugrkirk Emuna. It is answerable only the Metropolitan, and functions as the primary intelligence and security force of the Haugrkirk.
It was founded in 366 by Metropolitan Celandine the Great to pursue the First Great Holy War, and has functioned under the Metropolitan personally since. Members are appointed by the Metropolitan in secret, and the full membership is known only to the Archdeacon of the Order, kept only in memory. Hierophants of the order are dispensed from the normal clerical discipline never to draw blood, and all members of the order are sworn to secrecy regarding their membership.
The Archons acted as guardians of the Chaos Seals from 390 until the Enetoi Schism in 715, when the order assisted Metropolitan Boutros II escape Imperial captivity. Most of the order's Berytusian members were martyred or forced to flee to the western kingdoms, and the order came under the auspices of the Haugrkirk. A contingent of 77 Archons acts as the Metropolitan's bodyguard, in imitation of the 77 Archons who escaped with Metropolitan Boutros II from Berytus.
Archons are trained in the usual clerical capacity, along with extensive training in the forbidden forms of magic such that they understand both what is happening and how to counter it. The Archons are also trained in the arts of seduction (both hetero and homosexual) to further their missions; though they are still subject to the monastic celibacy obligation. Archon military training is considered as rigorous as that of the Yothians; the first Archons were trained by Yothian mercenaries and clerics.
The order has three permanent targets, and is permitted to pursue them at any time anywhere: the Purity Cult, Semelism, and Adonism.
