Liturgy of Flesh

In Emuna, the Liturgy of Flesh is one of Sacraments. It is performed by a Hierophant or Presbyter, assisted usually by a Deacon (though it may be performed by a Hierophant or Presbyter alone). During the first half of the Liturgy, the priest gives thanks to the Ancient of Days and Heliand, reads a passage of the Book of Simon and one of the Synopticons (according to the calendar), and performs the Liturgical Reconciliation of all those initiates present. In the second half, which is considered more mystical, unleavened bread (or leavened in Yothia) and red wine (or Cathay Gooseberry wine in Cathay) mixed with water is presented on the Altar, with the priest calling on the Heliand to transform it into the Flesh of God. The Flesh is then partially consumed by the priest, with the remainder of it distributed to the Emunites present. Afterwards, the priest performs a second thanksgiving to the Heliand, and recites the Litany of Cleansing, ringing the Blessed Bells to ward off demons, gods, and Antiquities in the vicinity of the ceremony. Though all are welcome in the first half of the Liturgy, during the consecration and consumption of the Flesh of God, only drowned initiates are permitted to be present.   The Liturgy of Flesh is performed in one of three usual forms: the Forma Ordinaria, the Forma Sponsa (for marriage), and the Forma Sacristos (for the appointment of priests). Priests are forbidden to sleep with their wives the night before performing the Liturgy (and the day also if performed in the evening). It is custom for the Liturgy to be performed twice daily in each church, once at sunrise and once at sunset. On special Festivals it is also performed once at noon, and on 2 Thargelion (the anniversary of the death of Acacius), it is said by each pastor once every hour.   It is custom in the Imperial-speaking realms to perform the entire liturgy in Old Berytusian language, while in the west, Enetoian is the liturgical language. The Amellion Particular Kirk within the Haugrkirk Emuna performs the Liturgy in High Tündetic, while the Saura Emuna Cathedral performs it in Sorese. Both the Yothian Haugrkirk and Old Yothian Cathedral perform the Liturgy in modern Yothic.
