The Shardplain

The Shardplain is a naturally occurring pocket dimension created by the displacement of magic in the aftermath of Amberscales the Great's demise, it is only accessible to those who are Ambertouched. The unique properties surrounding the pocket dimension has lead to many Ambertouched fleeing to the safety it provides. Because of this, the Shardplains used to have the highest concentration of Ambertouched on the planet, with nearly 40 percent of them living there. Over time as knowledge about the true cause and effects of the decease became more commonplace, the denizens of The Shardplains began to return to Teruna. Those that stayed negotiated with outside countries to keep their independence and the Court of Crystals was formed. Because the pocket dimension houses no natural fauna, the Shardplains relies on the exchange of food for crystals to stay afloat. Nowadays, the pocket dimension is most commonly known for it's high-class magic university. Which primarily studies mana crystals and mana-tech.

Geography

This pocket dimension is almost completely mountainous, with the exception of a large, circular valley at the heart. Crystals of various sizes and types protrude from the land, many of which are imbued with Amberscales' unique magic signature. The crystals that have elemental properties will sometimes congregate to an area, where excess magic leaks out. This has lead to the creation of a few rivers, including La Delilah. While there are many mana forests and outcroppings within the dimension, the most impressive is the Dragon Tree Plateau. A vast forest of gigantic dragon trees that stretches to the very bottom of the Shardplains that acts as both a plateau, and a land of eternal night.

Fauna & Flora

The flora of the Shardplains is both beautiful and potent. Charged from the magic present in the dimension, the plants that grow here are overcharged with magic. Flowers that are set alight when they bloom, Aspen trees that can cause earthquakes, and mushrooms that cause hysteria are just a few of the many unique fauna that populate the Shardplains. Many of the fruits, vegetables, and mushrooms that grow here were so magically potent that even holding one for a prolonged amount of time would cause magic related injuries. Many of this dimension's fauna have been selectively bred and isolated for use and consumption as both magic plants and food, though some are used for poisons. Most of the Shardplains original flora still remain, as ruled by The Court that these plants are to be left alone lest they die off.
However, intentional or not, many of these species have been introduced to Teruna. While many of these plants die off due to lack of required magic, the greater majority have rooted into the planet as invasive species'. Most infamous of these are the; Corpseroot Fig, Gorina's Water Lily, and Warning Orchids. These invasive plants grow quicker than normal, and often permanently root themselves into an ecosystem before they are noticed. However, they are often eaten by animals that require large amounts of magic, and many existing flora have adapted to the new challengers.

Natural Resources

Elemental mana crystals are the main source of income in the Shardplains, as it is one of the easiest ways to acquire the material on Teruna.
Magic herbs/plants are also a popular export, though not to the scale that mana crystals are. Even though Shardplain is in a politically agreement with the Union, it is still a major trading partner with magic focused cities and nations.

Crystal Death

The Shardplain is the only place where the Ambertouched can die safely, as the volatile magic within their bodies is contained by the natural environment. This causes the deceased to crystallize into a single, docile, mana crystal instead of the volatile clusters that happen on Teruna. It is a customary for the both family and lover to receive a chunk of the crystal that has been depleted.
Contrary to popular belief, the size of the crystal is not determined by the size of the body, it's actually the amount of magic stored in the body that determines both the size and make-up of the crystal.
