Without this knowledge many died, and many were left defenseless. Ivory Newart, an esteemed scholar from Magrad established the three standards that guided the newly budding city. The Three Ivory Standards
- Every child is to be educated with the same materials, regardless of status.
- The community is the most important thing to the Shardine, an attack on the community is an attack on the individual.
- Those without shelter or family are to be taken in and raised up by others, as is the way of life.
Art & Architecture
Art, while not as prevalent in other cultures, is still taken just as seriously. While they themselves never do it, Shardines enjoy paintings and other such similar artwork. Shardine artist are sculptors and architects, a profession where details and love show clearly in their work, and because of this almost always find work out of the Shardplains.
Coming of Age Rites
Once a child comes of age they go through a ceremony know as Crystal Cleansing, in which their shards are polished and refined to perfection. The cleansing ritual separates and purifies the magic within the crystals, which both mitigates outcropping and permanently changes the color of them.
Funerary and Memorial customs
After death, a crystal is to be given to the family, which is most often placed as a center piece in a family room. Should there be a lover, another smaller crystal is given to them. Said crystal is then ground into a fine powder and consumed as a sign of eternal devotion.
Historical figures

During the early days, men are expected to scout and protect their family while the women tended to the children and plants. Whoever could cook the best was the family chef, and was also responsible for teaching their kids how to cook as well.
Nowadays, men are more often employed in certain physically taxing jobs like construction, testing, and gardening where their widespread crystals protect them the most. While women tend to work in political and scientific fields, where they upkeep of their crystals is not vital to their career.
Relationship Ideals
Relationships are important in Shardine society, and it is expected to be taken seriously, even if they're short-term. Permanent couples share skin and crystal-care routines, and maintenance needs are almost immediately shared. Trust is valued in a relationship, so it is not uncommon for new couples to engage in activities that strengthen this trust.
