Grief Syndrome

Scientist who specialize in Id were once under the assumption that Id only developed externally, but science can always be trusted to discover new horrors we simply had the pleasure to be ignorant of. In the past, people baffled on how on occasion such massive Id manifestations seemed to pop out of nowhere, as they could often track the development of larger Id and neutralize them. But soon enough, it was discovered that Id develops internally just as much as externally. This occurs when a person's own cognition destabilizes their ether into Id and it takes on some of those aspects. Usually this Id's existence is short lives, either stabilizing back into ether or being ejected into the environment joining the ever present ambient Id, but sometimes this process becomes chronically dangerous. If the process were to worsen to the point of no return, the Id may take over and what emerges is what is referred to as a Remnant, Id that has completely overtaken the mind and ether of a person. Once thought to be very powerful manifestations have now been discovered to be the remains of a person. Though inherently tragic, the Remnant can become a very major threat and must be destroyed as quickly as possible.
The Remnants
They are horrifying creatures with varying traits and abilities that reflect the person in was born from, they are like monstrous twisted versions of their bearer. remnants rarely even resemble the human form and can appear abstract or wrong. Each remnant has varying abilities and intelligence but share a few universal ones. Most remnants are monstrously powerful, able to manifest their own gates and have the potential to reek devastation.
The Cure
There is none, there is no current way to check if someone has Id developing within them or to reverse the transformation. Though this corruption is quite rare, the creatures which emerge from it can be too dangerous. Most of the populous stay oblivious to this information, but if the knowledge is sought after, nothing is stopping them from learning another harsh reality. Though one silver lining to this tragedy is that not all remnants pose a direct threat, and some simply leave or are led away to wherever they cannot do harm to people, but whether they truly are too dangerous to be kept alive or too cruel not to kill is an argument in and of itself.

Causes

It is currently believed that it is caused by an etherious mutation where an aspect induces ones own cognition to fuse with their own ether. Then, like a cracking water dam, once a strong enough stimulus is introduced or they simply succumb over time to the growing cracks, they break. The resulting flood being the remnant of the victim.
