Kingdoms of Terrath: Roskovan

Located far to the north, this icy country is known for it's diverse races, from the elegant and cold Ice Elves to the large and beastly Ice Giants/Northern Giants.

Structure

The kingdom has been mainly ruled by men, but it is not considered wrong for a woman to inherit the throne, should there be no male heir capable of doing so. The king and queen are the two most powerful people in the government, with the army captain and the heir to the throne (the first borne prince or princess) being next.

Assets

Unlike the other three kingdoms, Roskovan is not a hotspot for precious metals or trading. However, Roskovan is the only kingdom where Chidoras grow. A Chidora is a type of evergreen tree, sorta like a Christmas tree, that is very rot and water resistant, making it perfect for boats and houses. Most of Roskovan's money comes from the demand of Chidora wood overseas.The Roskovan military was once hailed as a ruthless and barbaric army with a huge reprutation. In recent years, however, the army has been taking a back seat due to recent rulers taking a more 'peaceful' route.

History

Roskovan was, as the stories goes, the last country to be created. It is believed to be created by the unification of four barbaric tribes under one king and flag. However, no one really knows as things have gotten muddled in time. In 405, King Marovak took over the rest of the clans, successfully conquering the large island. He gained the title King Marovak the Kind and Just when he decided that even though they were now Roskovian, they could keep their traditons and their beliefs. Of course, over time their traditions and beliefs have for the most part merged together. He also turned each clan into it's own state, and the chiefs became governors of these states. In 498, a civil war broke out between the northern state of Zekov and its boarder state Tamiska. It lasted until 701, and was declared the bloodiest war Roskovan had ever taken part in and still is to this day. Both Zekov and Tamiska were disolved and reformed into one state called Takovska. In 735, many riots broke out between the people of Takovska, burning many important buildings and artifacts. Thankfully the government was able to control the situation quickly and the riots ended as quickly as they had started. In 910, Aetha had started a power hungry boarder expansion campaign, which had imediately set off red flags in Roskovan. However, due to their ok political and trade relationship, Roskovan wasn't to worried at first. Then, in 913, Aetha started moving beyond the Roskovian boarder and taking its land. This didn't go over well with Queen Javtah, the queen of Roskovan at the time. So she declared war on Aetha alongside Shiban. In 1034, Roskovan lost a series of battles in the southern states, cutting its size in half. In 1040, Roskovan and Shiban both agreed to recognize Renzinbar as its own kingdom if and only if it help them win the war at all cost. The leader of the Renzinbaric Revolution, Nezin, and the rest of the people quickly agreed. The war came to a end in 1049, forcing Aetha to give back a ton of land and resources it took from the other kingdoms and officially recognized Renzinbar as its own kingdom.

Education

Every one has access to elementary level education, as it is free and public. However, even though you must pay to go to school for a middle school education or higher, middle school education is typically somewhat affordable and some schools charge less than others. Anything higher than that, unfortunately, does cost an arm and a leg, meaning that only rich people have such education. On average, most only have a lower middle school education.

Roskovan's main export is Chidoras, a type of evergreen tree that is very rot and water resistant. This makes Chidora wood very high in demand in Renzinbar, a country with a very naval based army. Roskovian fur coats and boots are also pretty popular in Aetha and northern Shiban.

Major Imports

Fruits from the Shibanese jungles are Roskovan's biggest import, as they are one of the few things that Roskovan doesn't have naturally. Aethan books and textiles are also in high demand.
