Rhynter

Small, wiry-furred rodent-like creatures, often farmed and bred for their unique body chemistry. Rhynters have several extremely valuable components natural to their bodies; their tears are an exceptionally effective wound-closing solution, the bile is able to turn even the most toxic substances into their inert base materials and the lining of their stomachs (if correctly treated) is impervious to almost any substance. Although a rare species in the wild, communities of elves have since domesticated, bred and farmed these creatures into abundance.   Only found on the Everset continent, these curious creatures are of a very docile nature, not prone to aggression unless it is for survival. Growing to around 3 feet, from ground to withers, the Rhynter resembles a mastiff in size but is shaped similar to a large rodent. A herbivore, the Rhynter needs a variety of vegetables and roots for a healthy diet. Despite its value as livestock, it is not uncommon for citizens of elven society to adopt them as pets - usually favoured by the children of the wealthy.   The tears of the creature are collected using instruments known as "Tear Cups", which sit upon the cheekbones of the creatures and produce a gaseous substance that aggravates the tear ducts. These are replaced once a week, on average. For their bile, the Rhynter are fed a special substance once a day that promotes the production of bile in their bodies, causing them to spit it out as a natural reaction. This excess bile is collected via special drains in the floor of the Rhynters' stables. Finally, their stomach lining is usually collected after the creature reaches the latter half of its expected lifespan, when their tears and bile take on a less valuable form. This entire process is usually done for each Rhynter, but specialised farms are known to exist where dying of old age is a reality for the creatures.
